We got a new gecko last night. Casey named her Lily. She seems to be a lot more adventurous then CJ, who tends to hide a lot. As soon as we put Lily in the tank, she started running around and exploring. She didn’t seem the least bit afraid. I put some crickets in there and she ate them up. CJ actually has started coming out more over the last few days too, so I think maybe she was still getting used to her surroundings. They are getting along well. As soon as we put Lily next to her, CJ started licking her. That’s their way of checking something out… like dogs sniffing each other’s butts. LOL.
Speaking of which, we watched that new show
Creature Comforts last night. It’s by the Wallace and Gromit people, and it’s claymation animals being interviewed about different topics. It’s really bizarre, but I’m intrigued and couldn’t stop watching. I think my favorites were the bees. And the gecko was cute.
This morning was pretty nuts. Casey had her trip to Blizzard Beach, but before that I had to get the permission slips turned in for some field trips her summer camp will be going on. They do 2 trips a week, and only 50 out of the 120 kids in the program can go. So once you get the permission slips, you have to hurry up and get them turned in before it gets full. So yesterday Casey brought home slips for their first 4 trips (Animal Kingdom, Wet N Wild, Bowling and Fun Spot). Total cost of the trips was about $100 (which isn’t that bad considering I’m only paying $15 a week for camp in the first place), cash only, so I had to stop at the ATM (so mortgage is getting paid a little late... oh well). Why I didn’t do that last night, I have no idea. So I get the money and then I’m thinking I probably need to have it separated by each trip, which means I need change. So we stopped at Walgreens and I bought something, but it didn’t give me all the change I needed, so I asked for more. She tells me no, it’s too early and she doesn’t have any change. So for a trip that was $16, I just stuck a $20 bill in the envelope and hoped they would be able to give me change. Off we go to the middle school, where Casey waits in the car and I run in to turn in the slips, but there’s a line. So I waited forever because as it turns out, you didn’t necessarily need exact change, so I got to wait while the lady taking the money figured out the change for every single trip for every single person in front of me. Oh, and by the way... Casey probably could have just turned the forms in tomorrow when she went to camp, because as it turns out, not that many kids were signed up. They had lists for each trip, and the one that had the most was only 16 kids. So I guess it's not as much of a race as we thought. Most parents must not be letting their kids do the trips.
By the time I got back to the car, it was obvious we were going to be late to Blizzard Beach. She was supposed to be meeting them at the front gate in about 15 minutes. Casey grumbled that I had taken so long turning in the permission slips that she’d been worried I was dead (LOL), and that if she didn’t get in to Blizzard Beach , it was all my fault. I was stressed enough without that little comment, so I snapped at her that maybe she needed to take a step back and realize that all this running around I was doing (not to mention being late to work) was solely so for HER. I’m not the one that gets to go on all these fun trips. I’m the one who has to shovel out the money and do all the legwork. She apologized right away. I know she was just worried about making it to her trip. She had been so excited about it. She'd never been and always wanted to.
Anyway, we were about 10 minutes late, but the guy was still outside waiting for people, so it was all good. I found out last night that there would be several chaperones there and a check in point, so I’m sure she’ll be fine and have a great time. Woo.
So then Josh is going to pick her up there at 5:30 and we’re going to meet up to have dinner at Hard Rock and try to get into Blue Man Group. Busy day.
My shoulder hurts. Meh.
Oh, back to camp. I didn't mention what she thought of her first day. She really likes it. They played basketball and soccer ("Mom, I figured something out today. I'm really really really good at soccer. The ball always goes where I want it to when I kick it" LOL), and they have this thing called Success Makers (I think), where they play educational computer games. They get to pick which one, and yesterday Casey did Lemonade Stand. She had to buy her supplies and figure out costs and everything. Plus they have reading time, so she has to bring a book. I'm glad they have some things in there to keep their brains working during the summer.
