Source Dark Horse's newly expanded "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" line keeps chugging along in December with another issue of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 9" #16 by Andrew Chambliss and Georges Jeanty and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Willow - Wonderland" #2 by Jeff Parker and Brian Ching.
"I think the thing that I'm always keeping in mind when I'm writing is what Joss said to me about approaching 'Season 9:' Try to write it as much like the show as possible, and try to think of each arc as an episode," Chambliss told CBR TV at Comic-Con International about his approach to writing the main "Buffy" series. "There are things for the season arc that we're laying in in the early arcs, but each arc is going to have its own emotional story and its own conclusion -- it's own kind of stand-alone story. And [it will] build to the bigger arc that we'll get to at the very end in the same way that the show would build a big arc but have these small [stories].
Parker is a newcomer to the Whedonverse and wants to stretch his fantasy muscles as he sends Willon on a wild ride in "Willow - Wonderland." "There are a lot of freaky weird creatures in Wonderland and some bizarre laws of nature, but I think her biggest challenge is understanding herself or being honest with herself," Parker said. "Like most of my favorite series episodes, no matter how horrific or fantastic the premise is, the underlying story is always something very basic to human nature... Along the way, she finds out a few interesting secrets of the universe, and how magic works. And, she'll find what's essentially Witch Paradise."
Today, CBR presents an exclusive first look at the covers for these December shipping titles. "Buffy Season 9" #16 sports a cover by Phil Noto and a variant by series artist Jeanty. "Willow - Wonderland" #2 has a regular cover by David Mack while Megan Lara provides the variant.
