Oh, alright, I'll post it! All the silence was making me paranoid!

My response to karyn's prompt.  My view was that Angel would take over leadership and not fall in love with Buffy.

END OF SEASON ONE

"You died, Buffy," Angel said condescendingly. "You are no longer the Slayer. The rest of us will continue on protecting the Hellmouth until the new Slayer comes to Sunnydale." The brunette vampire didn't care for the petite blond Slayer. She had a way about her that irked him, much like his grandchilde Spike had back in the days when he was Angelus.

"I think you've worn out your welcome here," Giles replied. "Take your minions and leave." The Watcher waved at Willow and Xander. He was disappointed in the two teenagers. At first, they had been a great help and wonderful friends with Buffy, but when Angel had shown up proclaiming to be the Champion to the Powers That Be, the two had changed their allegiance a little too fast for Giles' liking.

"Don’t you mean Buffy needs to leave?" Willow asked.

"No, I’m still her Watcher," Giles answered. "The books in this library are mine and I say who uses them."

"We’ll see about that," Angel growled. He turned to storm out of the school library. "Come along, Willow. Xander."

Buffy waited a few seconds before she said softly, "I think we need to find a new headquarters."

"You’re quite right." Giles nodded in agreement. Deep in thought about Buffy’s idea, the Watcher started to collect his precious tomes.

SEASON TWO

"Good, Kendra," Angel praised the new Slayer as she dusted the fledgling vampire. This one was much more malleable than Buffy. Kendra kept her eyes down and did exactly what the vampire told her to do. He was quite pleased with the girl. Angel was startled out of his thoughts by clapping, and he stepped forward with a growl when a familiar voice sounded from the shadows.

"I’d say ‘nice work, luv’, but I don’t like to lie."

"Spike!" Angel growled.

"That’s my name, don’t wear it out." The bleached blond vampire stepped out of the darkness. "How long’s it been, Angelus?"

"Not long enough, William," Angel snarled. He motioned the Slayer forward. "Be careful with this one, Kendra. He’s sneaky."

Kendra stepped forward, and she fell into a fighting stance. She had only thrown a few punches when she found herself in trouble. Kendra the Vampire Slayer’s last thought was of her home; the island paradise from which she had been taken as a child. She heard the snap of bone, and she knew no more.

"My, my, Angelus, it appears your little Slayer is quite dead. Too bad, so sad. Looks like you need a new one. Too bad the old one thinks you should shove it up your ass." Spike dropped the Slayer’s body. He gave his grandsire a gaunty little wave before he slipped back into the darkness from which he came.

SEASON FOUR

"Open up, Slayer, I know you’re in there." Spike pounded on the Magic Box’s back door. "Please, ole Spikey’s been to the vet. He can’t play with the other puppies any more."

"Should we let him in?" Giles asked Buffy. "You know, anyone who hates Angel as much as he does has got to be... as much as I hate saying this... a friend."

Buffy sighed before she chewed on her lip for a second. She turned to the other members of her new Scooby gang, Daniel Osborne aka Oz and Jonathan Levinson, and she asked, "What do you think, guys?"

The werewolf and the magic user looked at each other for a moment. They both turned to Buffy, and they nodded, agreeing to let the vampire in.

Buffy opened the door, and she gasped when she saw how pale and underfed Spike looked. She grabbed the vampire’s arm while she issued an invitation inside. Buffy hustled Spike to a chair in the middle of the room where she sat him down. "Oz, go to the butcher’s and get all the blood you can."

The werewolf quickly stood to do what Buffy had ordered. He had never seen the bleached blond vamp look so bad before, not even when he was drunk off his ass and missing his Sire after Angel had staked the sick and insane vampiress. This made Oz curl his lip. He had hung out with Angel and the others for a bit, but he had found them too controlling. It was after his cousin had bitten him, turning him into a werewolf, that he found Buffy and Giles. Oz was so lost in thought, he realized he had made it to the butcher’s and back in record time.

"So, you’re telling us you can’t hurt anyone?" Buffy was asking Spike when Oz returned from the butcher’s. "Oz is here with the blood." She took the sack of containers from the werewolf.

Giles grabbed a mug from shelf by the coffee pot, and he handed it to Buffy. "Here, Buffy." He wrinkled his nose in mild disgust. "Please make sure you know which one is yours, Spike, and drink from that one only." Then, he turned to Jonathan. "Tara should be here in a few moments. Maybe she’ll have insight into ‘ninja dressed guys’ on the college campus."

"That’s gross, Spike," Buffy giggled.

When the others turned to look at the Slayer and vampire both had innocent expressions on their faces. Giles sighed, knowing that they were in store for some very childish behavior in the near future.

SEASON SIX

Buffy stood, arms crossed, staring at Angel and his ‘minions’. She felt cool hands settle on her shoulders, and she knew her love, her mate, her right hand vampire stood behind her giving her strength. Buffy gave Angel, Willow, Xander, and Wesley the once over before she quietly and lethally asked, "What gave you the right to resurrect me, Angel?"

"The Hellmouth needed a Slayer?" Angel answered pompously. He gave Buffy a knowledgeable smile.

"Oh, because Kennedy isn’t a little puppet you can make dance to your whims?" Buffy spat out. She sneered at her former friends before she indicated her real friends with a hand. "The Hellmouth is ours. Sunnydale belongs to us. You and your little minions are no longer welcome here."

"I saved you from hell," Willow snarled, her eyes turned black in her anger.

"No, Willow." Buffy smiled sadly. "You pulled me out of Heaven. I was warm and loved and safe, knowing that my real friends were alive and protecting Dawnie."

"Get out of Sunnyhell, Angelus," Spike snarled over Buffy’s shoulder.

"Now!" Giles stepped up to enforce to the other group that the Slayer and her friends meant business. "You have till sunrise."

Buffy turned under Spike’s hands, smiled up into his face, and softly asked, "Take me home now, baby?"

Spike gave Angel one last hard look before he looked down at Buffy. "Anything for you, luv. You know that."

Angel knew that both Spike and Buffy were serious. It had been a calculated risk to resurrect Buffy after she had sacrificed herself to save the world, but the vampire had thought she would be sufficiently grateful for rescuing her from hell to do what she was told for a change. Boy, was he ever wrong. Angel had never realized how close Buffy and Spike had been before her death until he had seen how they had fallen into each other’s arms after Buffy’s return. It was just like the little upstart to count the days. Angel sighed, and he signaled to the others that it was time to leave. Maybe Los Angeles was a better place for them to set up shop anyway.
