Confirmation that people suck

Sit back and get comfy, this is a long rant.

First, a little back story. The third week of September I started having skin problems, as did my male cat. I was getting bit by something every night, all over. My female cat and husband were fine, though, but Halloween and I were miserable. I started sleeping in the guest bedroom, which helped, but Halloweed was still miserable. Shoot forward to last Wednessday, when I had an exterminator come do an inspection (I thought we had a bad flea infestation that wasn't going away with just treating the animals). Turns out we have *ew* bed bugs. We have no idea how they got in the house because we haven't traveled anywhere to bring them in. Anyway, the upshot of the story is that they are harder to get rid of then termites. We have to have the entire upstairs treated a minimum of three times, two weeks apart (by law) each. We had to clear out all the dressers, book shelves, closets, etc. Wash all clothes, bedding, etc. in hot water and dry on high heat. We had to purchase mattress and pillow covers that are bed bug proof (to the tune of almost $300). The treatments are $200 each. Things that can't be laundered are being dry cleaned (all hubby's suits, etc) which has been almost $200. So in all this is costing us around $1000. Right at Christmas time in a horrible economy when neither of us are getting our usual bonuses (ie nothing this year at all). There were some things that couldn't fit in my washer at home (a few blankets and the comforter from my bed), so I took them to work to wash. I made sure it was a day that laundry was low, business was slow, and I asked all three kennel staff members if they were ok with me doing a few loads. I got no objections from anyone. I also told them that I'd take care of it because I didn't expect them to do my laundry after all. I kept my eye on the laundry and turned it over whenever I could to keep up with it and help out becuase I was taking up a machine. Well, one time I didn't get to it quickly enough and one of the kennel people put my bed comforter in the dryer. My $200 comforter. And caught the corner in the door. About 10" of it shredded like a dog chewed it! After that, I told her that I really meant it when I said that I'd take care of my own laundry. Apparently she started complaining that she felt like my maid then went and complained either to my boss or the HR manager, I don't know which. Anywho, within a half hour of me talking to her about my comforter, my boss came to me and said he'd had some complaints about me doing my laundry and I needed to stop. Keep in mind I'd been doing it all day with no complaints, even from my boss who saw me doing it.
That was Tuesday. I had Wednessday off. Today I come to work and there's a company memo in my box about use of the laundry facility. How doing private laundry is absolutely unacceptable. Then there was this whole bit about contamination. Ooooh it irked me! I can understand their need to let everyone know that we can't use the laundry facilities. However...I felt that, if there was a problem, they should have come to me and dealt with it behind closed doors, not in a memo in public in everyone's boxes. Especially on my day off! Also in my box was a page copied from an entymology text about the family of bugs, with the part on bed bugs highlighted. It was from a certain co-worker who has been increasingly angry and drama-causing. He wrote a note about how he was pissed that I exposed him and the hospital to this and how irresponsible it was. Oh, and PS. I know it's no one's fault and it's a difficult thing to deal with, but please don't come to my Christmas Gals.
The fucker disinvited me to his christmas party! :-O I had two copies of the entymology text in my box, one with the handwriting on it, one without, but both with highlighting. I also found one posted in the kennel area. This was completely disrespectful and inappropriate. And humiliating. And the bit about the disinvitation is just hurtful and stupid. He didn't even do his research, because the instructions from my exterminators explicitely state to remove the laundry from my house to wash it. If they thought it would contaminate a laundry facility they would never tell me to wash it away from my house.

I just want to scream from the frustration. Not only do I have to deal with the stress of completely tearing down my upstairs, washing EVERYTHING in site, having pesticides sprayed in my house for 6 weeks WHILE I'M PREGNANT mind you, but I get shit at work about the whole thing. It just confirmes my whole thing that people suck. I've been in group therapy for a year now to overcome that feeling, but every time I have a break through and think I've made a huge bit of progress, something like this happens to confirm the people suck theorem.

Baby update: 18 weeks 2 days. Still due May 12, 2009. Had major ultrasound yesterday, everything is healthy so far, measures and works like it should. Kicking and moving like mad, though I don't really feel it yet. It's still too small and it's my first, so I'm just starting to feel flutters and bubbles now and then. It's like, is that the baby, or gas? lol
Oh, and we think it's a boy :-)
