well, since I've only updated twice since I've moved down here (and they were both during hurricanes) i might as well keep up with the trend.
I am staying in West Palm Beach with some friends. It is 2:49am and there are barely any clouds in the sky. The ones that are there are zipping across the sky faster than I've ever seen clouds move. I brought my camara so I could take pictures. The sky turns all kinds of amazing colors during the hurricane. I really wanted to stay in my apartment but the campus was evacuated earlier and I caught a ride with some girl up to west palm.
So i'm staying with a very wealthy jewish family. The father was a dentist but he died so the brother moved home to take care of the mom (isn't that sweet?) and suzanne (the girl) is living on campus after spending 3 years on a commune, 2 on a forest ranger trail and one working as a massage therapist. I didn't feel so bad about my placement in school when she told me she's 26 and a sophomore.
So school is going well. I started going to yoga a couple times a week and am feeling better than I've felt in a long time. I made some friends in the dorms and we take turns cooking for eachother. I brought my laptop here but the battery will only last two and a half hours after the power goes out. So i'm writing now (while everyone's asleep)in case there's no power by the time I get up. They have a German Shepard that's as big as I am (not even joking) and he keeps licking my face (as I'm sitting here on the floor in the dark). I charged my cell phone and I figure if I keep it off and only use it in emergencies, it'll last me a couple days. We went to the store and got bunch of granola bars and water and stuff. Suzanne's brother tried to kiss me last night. I kissed him back for a second but then I lost interest. So I laughed. And he laughed. And that was the end of that.
The problem with a hurricane is it takes out the power lines.
so you can't cook anything or keep it in the fridge.
Plus, there's no air conditioning or hot water or electricity.
so basically you have to sit in the dark in a hundred degrees for a week while they get the trees off the streets and put the power lines back up.
something like that. And there's no gas to go anywhere.
Anyways.
I'll try to write more tomorrow.
Love, me.
