"Emotional abuse occurs when there is an ongoing and consistent pattern of behavior that interferes with the normal psychological and social development of a child. This includes unreasonable, excessive, or aggressive demands on the child that are not age-appropriate, setting tasks that are beyond the physical ability of the child, or the caregiver not providing the nurturing, guidance, and/or psychological support critical for the growth and development of a healthy child. Verbal attacks such as belittling, insults, rejection, and constant criticism are a few patterns of emotional abuse."
