Hello again--
My post yesterday peaked my interest in the Friends of the Night People organization, that helps very destitute and homeless folks obtain what they need to survive.
Upon a suggestion from a fellow dork about dropping bottles in front of the building, I decided to give the place a call and see if they need anything else (it's garage sale season, most people are cleaning out their homes right now, including myself). The man I talked to, Gordon, told me that the FotNP are in most need of the following things:
Wearable, clean clothes
Underwear/socks
Toiletries of all kinds- bar soap, shampoo, razors, shaving cream, pads/tampons, etc
Blankets (they have NO blankets right now and people still need them this time of year)
Coats
Food (I can't remember if non-perishables are ok to donate or not)
Bottled Water
Those are just a few things on the list, which Gordon stressed they need the most. He told me they make up care packages for men and women and hand them out as requested, and give people what they can when requested. He strikes me as a very passionate man who loves what he does, helping people all over Buffalo. This is a good way to bypass monetary giving if you're worried about how the money would be spent (as discussed in the previous post).
If you're interested in donating FotNP is located at 394 Hudson Street. If you want more specifics about what the organization needs, you can call 884-5375. Their best drop-off hours are Saturday 9-7:15 and Sunday 11-7:15. Either call first or ring the doorbell when you get there.
I want to thank
object_sleep for the inspiration :)
