Thanks for the advice on the stray we've been taking care of.
My husband and I have called around rescues to see if anyone would take him but either they're filled up or they won't take an unfixed male cat.
I called my vet (Brighton-Eggert, who've always been great with our girls) and they said unfortunately the SPCA is the best bet. If he's healthy other than his leg they'll heal him up and get him up for adoption. If he's got any untreatable illnesses (which he may, being a stay and all), then he'll probably be put down humanely.
I don't think the options get better than that. It's very hard when you've done all you can to help an animal who was abandoned, especially for such a long tme, but his best interests are to get into medical care. He's worse this morning so we don't have another option.
Thanks again for the help. I know some of you wanted an update. I don't doubt that he'll charm the staff at the SPCA. He's a total sweetheart. He won us over, after all! No other stray has ever done that!
