I'm thinking about getting a family membership to the Tonawanda Aquatic Center.
Opinions on the place?

family fun, tonawanda, swimming

The only thing I can think of when I think of that place is when I went there as a teen and accidentally went into the mens' locker room. =\ Oops!

I'm a member. It's a great deal if you are a Tonawanda resident, but pricey if you're not. The real advantage of it over the BAC is the fact that it has the pool, sauna, steam room, and whirlpool which I think the BAC lacks.

It's located conveniently for me, and I like it. Your mileage may vary.

Just to correct you a little, you have to be a Town of Tonawanda resident to get the discount. OP is City of Tonawanda.

I had a membership there. It's nice because you can cancel at anytime (at least I could... no contracts). It was always busy when I went though and classes cost extra, as I recall. You're better off at the YMCA because the classes are included and the gym isn't as busy.

The equipment at the Aquatic Center is good though and the pool is huge. It's always booming though, and I rarely got in the pool because of that!

It is starting to tick me off there, I can't say much about the pool and what not b/c I never use it, I strictly use the gym, and as of this week, 3 of the mere 6 elliptical machines are "out of order" and literally every bike/treadmill/elliptical, and well over half the weight machines and stair-steppers are in use whenever I go, but I go at primetime, 5:30 thru 8pm-ish, so if you work off shifts and go during the day it might not be as bad, and yes all the classes cost extra.

BUT, this is what I did, if you have Independent Health, and are a ToT resident, You basically get a free membership. Resident annual fee is $250, and with my IHA plan, I get a $250 debit card to use towards a gym membership, so I pretty much just paid the tax, which was like 4 bucks. So if you can do that, go for it if it's free

That's the situation I'm in. A yearly membership for $4 is a pretty sweet deal.
