Oh my favorite-favorite restaurant for that kind of thing is Carmello's, but it's up in Lewiston. Amazing food, great wine-- I go there with people I really, really want to treat. But it's not real close. Still, it's a gorgeous drive up to there. And the dessert wines-- oh man. That's the kind of place where you go to have dinner all night and blow your whole entertainment budget.
And my second-favorite restaurant is Curly's, in Lackawanna. Also amazingly worth the drive for everything. If they have mussels, get them.

... Huh, I had no idea I was so full of suburbs-centric Fail. Mm, within the city the nicest most awesome place I ever went was Left Bank. I remember that the food was incredible, but I don't recall how the wine selection was-- I think the people I was with weren't wine people so we drank liquor drinks instead.
I went to Stillwater recently and enjoyed it hugely-- that's right on Delaware Ave. downtown. I had some gourmet interpretation of macaroni and cheese, which doesn't sound fancy at all but it was really, really good, very delicate and savory, and not at all what it sounds like. $25 for the plate of it, and worth every cent, wow. There was some weirdness with the service at dessert, but the food made up for it and we were there at a weird time on a slow day, so I can't imagine that'd be typical.
