The weight of history

Apr 30, 2007 12:54

Spent a little while this morning at the Royal Courts of Justice. No, they haven't finally caught up with me. Not yet, anyway.

But no, I was picking up a copy of this claim. Had to walk all over the place, in and out of various buildings, finding first where to get a copy, then to the fees office (on the way to which, I walked through the delightfully named 'Bear Garden'!), then back to that office to pick up the copy of the claim.

And the place felt heavy with history. I'm not kidding - I can't remember the last time I walked through a building still in use by people working there where I felt so much history surrounding me. And yes, I've been in older buildings both in London, and abroad. But this was something different.

Really surprised the hell out of me...
