ASHLEY MARTIN AND UNKNOWN PERSON I CHOOSE THEE!

THUNDERDOME!!!

It was night and the rain fell;
and, falling, it was rain, but, having fallen, it was blood.
And I stood in the morass among the tall lillies, and the rain fell upon my head -
and the lillies sighed one unto the other in the solemnity of their desolation.

I agree with the first person that commented. It definitely has EA Poe written all over it. However, I could be wrong...

Not Poe at all, except OMG! RAIN! HORROR! TEH POEZ0RZ! I can see where people want to make the association, but it's just not REALLY there. It’s more feminine than macabre. Seriously, whereas the dead person? The cask? The mask of death? the raven? the heart? Eleanor Rigby? Nowhere. It’s too sweet to be Poe. I think if Virginia Woolf had a bad day and was a little depressed (A little? the bitch killed herself) she'd write kind of like that. but it'd be published and read in femme lit courses and I'd be able to find some masonginistic & feminist reasoning for the rain and the lilies. so clearly, it's not her either ( ... )

Haha, sorry to offend. I guess that I just didn't realize that we lived in a world according to one English major. I also didn't realize that, with probably hundreds of pieces of work, that ol' Edgar was limited to writing about cats with a vengeance, ravens, et al. However, I do realize that his writing does not usually not vary too far from macabre... but what Nick put up might just be an excerpt from something larger that does follow along the lines of "OMG! RAIN! HORROR! TEH POEZ0RZ ( ... )

I did not mean to use the word not twice in fourth sentence, or whatever it was. Please excuse all other spelling and/or grammatical mistakes, as I am out of my right mind. :)

Oh no, I didnt mean to be insulting to the two of you saying that it was reminiscent of Poe, I even said I could understand the connection. I was just taking it further in the fact that getting down to the root of it it was more sympathetic in tone.
and if it's an excerpt Nick, why not post the whole thing?
