Retail Anger

Why am I getting stressed with shop assistants at the moment? I seem to get so annoyed at the slightest thing.

Couple of days ago I walked out of the shop and gasp shock swore at the clerk because she just wasnt getting it. All I really wanted her to do was say "Yes, You are right, I will get on to that right away." What happened to the customer always being right? What happened to polietness? Well admittedly I did swear at her but she drove me to it! All I wanted to do was purchase a cushion for a friend. They were on a stand marked Sale! £3.99. I picked one up and took it to the till. Where upon she scanned it and said "That's £4.99 please." I know it is only a pound more, I was prepared to pay it even, but just said "That is not what it says on the sticker." "It's £4.99." "But the sticker says £3.99 quite clearly." "No, that's for the stuff on the shelf underneath." "Well that's confusing. And Misleading." " It's £4.99." At that point my blood boiled. Like I said I just wanted her to understand, maybe aplogise. So I just said "Don't worry about it I have changed my mind" to which she replied under her breath "It's only a pound." So I told her it was the f***ing principle of it and walked out the shop.

Today I wander in to Gregs (a bakery type shop) for some breakfast. The counter staff completely ignore me waiting there to be served and carry on with their conversation. So after a minute I politely cough, you know just to let them know I am there. They ignore me. So I say to the lady next to me, quite loudly: "You might be waiting there a long time, they don't seem to be serving in here." And again walked out the shop.

Having worked in retail it really isn't that hard to get these little things. Politeness. Putting the right price on things. Counting your change back to you. Being able to add up. Had one at the theatre who had to use a calculator, yes a calculator, to add £3.00 and £2.50. I mean really.

Is anyone else noticing a decline in this area of retail or is it just me?
