Ok, I try not to brag too much about Ian. I don't show picts around at the office and I try not to crow about his various accomplishments too much to my childless friends. However, this is different.

Ladies and gents, at the ripe old age of 2 years, 5 months, and one day exactly, Ian has WRITTEN his first words - 4 of them in fact.

Robin, Ian and I were in the den last night. Robin was trying to get some reading in before I went off to fighter practice so I was playing with Ian. He had asked for a pencil so he could draw on some paper and after much hunting for a sharpened pencil we found a mechanical one that he could use. So he and I sat down and he started drawing.

First he drew a couple of circles, then he drew a kinda box like pointy thing between and under them, then he drew a squiggly U shape under that. It dawned on me at this point he was drawing a face (I don't think he'd drawn one before that point). I asked him if that was a face and he said 'yes'. Robin looked up and asked who it was and Ian replied 'Mommy'. Robin asked if she could write his name on the picture and Ian said 'Ian do it!'

And then it happened with absolutely zero prompting from us - he wrote 'MOM' above the face he'd just drawn. Robin and I looked at each other in totally amazement and I mouthed 'WTF' or 'OMG' or something to that effect.

Ian then proceeded to draw and label "Ian", "Dad" and "Auntie" (we did have to spell Auntie for him, but he wrote it out). I've posted the first pict of "Mom" below, but you can see all the pictures here -

Heh, Mom looks a little drunk, or woozy, or something...
