I was jogging a few weeks ago when I stepped off a curb and heard/felt a light *pop* from my right Achilles tendon. It hurt - not a lot, but some. I was walking anyway at that point and decided to finish off my walk. I kept jogging for another week or so, then decided that it was simply too hot and that I was not doing my Achilles any favors.
This is why I did not participate in the Human Race.
The pain has lessened during the last few weeks, but it still aches. So today I took myself to my podiatrist to have it looked at, and he thinks it's damaged. Now it's a matter of assessing how much and what healing measures to take. The MRI people will be calling sometime in the next day or two to set up a MRI and I'm scheduled to go back to dr in two weeks.
In the mean time no jogging or fencing (like I was fencing much anyway). I also have this dead-sexy air-boot/Achilles compression thing that goes under my sock around my ankle. Very fashion forward if I do say so.
I don't think surgery is in my future. I've been reading up on this and all the web sites say the same thing - it takes a long time to get over an Achilles injury, like months or years, even without surgery. I have a friend here at work who is forbidden to run/jog for the next year and then they will re-assess.
So, dear reader, I will update you further as time and information allows. Hope everyone is doing well.
