Obama is a Genius RE: Rick Warren
You know, in the midst of all this chaos with Rick Warren... I think I finally see the purpose... after watching several days of news coverage and analysis and Live Journal Posts and so forth... what the final result really ended up being was that Gay Marriage and Gay rights have really been thrust into the forefront of national discussion. Much like Obama's race during the campane.
Obama's a smart cookie, and I can't see him not doing anything that wasn't perfectly calculated to allow risk management. And what better way to address an issue then to spark a national discussion over the matter with a serious stimuli? Apparently Rick Warren's church website has recently modified it's more hateful language about homosexuality to be more politically friendly. It's not a complete reversal... but it was enough to make his group look at what they were saying for once. Which I consider progress.
So what does Obama stand to gain? He gets to try and garner respect from the evangelical base... He sparks a nation wide conversation about an uncomfortable issue... He gets more press (since the media just love to cover him)... and he gets the practical image of being able to reach and encompass all the parts of our nation ... since he is correct that everyone needs to do their part for our country... even if we can't agree on every topic.
