Actually, I mean just that. There are places in Northern California where you can really live in the middle of nowhere. A friend of mine lived 2 miles from the nearest paved road. From there it was 5 miles to the nearest "town." From there it was a nother 30 miles to the nearest traffic light (with maybe another small town in between). And the nearst big city that you'd recognize the name of was actually about 90 miles away from his place, and wasn't even in the same state. As for an Apple store? I'd say it was at least that 90+ miles away.
However, pricing of his place was pretty comperable to what you said you'd paid, and similar land size (admittedly with a whole lot more snow though).
As for my area, yeah, it is pretty cool, but much more expensive than your place. Truth be told though, these days you can get a pretty good deal on a place around there. The real problem is that CA officials are nazi's when it comes to "wild" animals. I'm pretty sure you can only have non-native animals, and then, only with a permit. Of course, if you're out in the middle of nowhere, such regulations really are pretty meaningless. Most folks way out in the woods and far away from the cities will turn a blind eye to most things.
