Let's see, things I can't get here in Iraq. This could be a long list, but i'll keep it to the basics. AAA batteries, Old Spice High Endurance deoderant, aftershave lotion, decent books, decent DVD's, paintball magazines (though i'm about to try and order a subscription), computer games, cream soda, pictures from home, and then of course McDonalds, penn station, girls, and beer. Really thats about it, you can get alot of stuff at the Post Exchange, food, drinks, electronics, pretty much anything you would need, but at a limited selection. And we have a Pizza Hut and a Burger King, but if you think that the mexican at taco bell can't understand you, try having a bunch of Iraqi dudes trying to special order a whopper w/o onion. oh, and there are dudes out on the street that try and sell stuff to you like bootleg dvd's and porn and all kinds of worthless crap. I think they put bombs out on the road just to back up military traffic so they can try and sell us stuff while we are waiting for the explosives team to clear the bombs. Or the vicious little kids trying to get everything they can get their hands on. Yesterday they chased our humvee for at least a half mile, and everyone of them had their clothes stuffed with candy from all the other guys giving it to them. As far as the rest of the base, we have a movie theater, 2 swimming pools, a gym, a track, some kind of recreation tent with pools tables and table football and TV's, or so I'm told, I havn't had time to go do any of those things. I'm lucky if I have time to workout at the little tent next door that only has a few wieghts in it. Apparently they had some lingere models from victoria secret here last night, but I was out on a mission :( But the best thing at our base is the fighter jet runway right next to the tent, and the explosives training place down the road. Every time i fall asleep, i wake up to an F-16 running full afterburners, or a few puonds of C-4 making the tent shake, or mortars hitting the base, usually right around dinner time, and they shut the freakin chow hall down for at least 15 minutes. It's funny to see all the people hiding from the mortars, we just walk around and go about our business. I guess for alot of the people on this base mortar attacks are the most action they ever see, i heard something like only 10% of the people on this base ever leave the gate, and we drive halfway across the country every day.
I gotta get some sleep and clean the rust off my weapons from the rain. Miss you all, Kurt
