"Promise you won't go apeshit," Jim said quietly. McCoy narrowed his eyes.
"No," he said solidly. "Jim, what's going on here?" Jim blinked furiously, and inhaled shakily.
"Remember when you asked about that scar on my back?" Jim started.
"The long one across your spine? Yea," McCoy said. It was a jagged line cutting from hip to hip over his spine, as if someone had taken a knife and sliced.
"I told you I fell onto a platform when I was younger," Jim said. McCoy nodded warily. "I lied." He was silent. McCoy waited for him to continue, but suddenly everything clicked into place; the conversation between the two men, the scar, Jim flinching away from the man's touch...
"Oh my god," McCoy whispered, unable to stop the breath of shock from escaping. "Jim, he--" He couldn't finish. Jim nodded miserably, folding his arms over his chest.
McCoy stood, red colouring his vision once more. If anyone had ever done that to Joanna, he'd have the man's liver on a platter faster than Jocelyn could say 'doctor'. He didn't know he had moved to the door until he ran into Jim's hands.
"Whoa, Bones. Calm down. Calm down," Jim soothed, pushing him back from the door.
"No, Jim, I will not calm down. That man abused you. I'm going to go give him a beating like he's never experienced. How could he beat on a child!?" McCoy raged, straining against Jim's hands. "The only reason to lay hands on a child is to comfort them, to love them, hug them. What he did was unacceptable. I don't care if you're willing to let it stand. I'm gonna get myself a testicle at least."
"Bones, Bones, come on, man," Jim murmured, a wry smile lifting his lips. McCoy huffed furiously. "That was a long time ago, Bones. I'm not saying I'm over it, but it was a long time ago."
McCoy reached between Jim's hands and gripped his face firmly. "You know what he did was wrong, Jim," McCoy said. Jim nodded.
"Yea, Bones, I know."
"And there was nothing you could do about it. It wasn't your fault," McCoy said quietly. Jim nodded again. "And if I ever see him again I can't be responsible for what I do."
Jim grinned shakily. "I've never seen a tighter right hook, Bones. I'm impressed. I think everyone else was, too." McCoy sighed and wrapped Jim in his arms. Jim sank into the embrace limply, and McCoy just held him.
