I guess I'll start with the good news... So far, final grades in 4 out of my 5 classes have been posted, and I've gotten A's in everything so far (even Art of Japan! unbelievable!). The only grade not posted yet is for my Culture of Spain class, but I'm pretty sure I got an A in that one, too. The other good news is that Troy Smith won the Heisman. He really deserved and earned it, especially with the rough life he's had and how he's turned out. We watched the Heisman presentation from Eddie George's Grille last night and everyone was going crazy. Columbus is just buzzing with excitement. Congratulations, Troy :)
Now the bad news.
I had my surgery on Thursday. Actually, it wasn't really bad. Everything went well and my doctors and surgery nurses were super nice. I didn't even really have any pain or bleeding or anything afterwards. But I mentioned in my last entry that I've been sick all week. Well, Friday at 4:30 in the morning I woke up with the worst sore throat I have EVER had, and that's saying a lot, because I have gotten strep literally EVERY year since the sixth grade. I stumbled into the bathroom to try and drink some water, and I opened my mouth to look at my throat. My uvula (the dangly thing) was so swollen it was the size of my thumb and it was literally sitting on top of my tongue. I was practically choking on it. So Mom packed Steven and I into the car and we drove to the hospital for the second time in less than 24 hours. We went to the Emergency Room, and it turns out that I have strep throat and pharyngitis. They gave me a shot of bicillin (in my butt) so now my butt was hurting. I slept most of the rest of the day (thank you, Sudafed) and was actually starting to feel better (as in, I was no longer choking on my own body parts). Well, this morning I woke up and couldn't open my right eye. So I stumbled into the bathroom again, and my eye was swollen and cemented shut with green boogery stuff. YUM. PINK EYE. Thankfully, the people at the ER made me schedule a strep follow-up doctor's appointment for tomorrow, so when I go in, I'll get eye drops. I just hope that between now and tomorrow I don't spread it to my other eye. Oh, and I also keep coughing up green phlegm, so hell, I might have bronchitis, too. And I'm so congested and the air is so dry and I've had to blow my nose so much that I've gotten about 12 bloody noses in the past day. So basically, I'm a walking germ factory.
Well, Steven and I dropped mom off at the airport this morning and went to CVS to stock up on medicine, chicken noodle soup, and tissues with lotion in them. I got back home and decided to watch The Little Mermaid and curl up in bed when my phone rang. It was dad. Grandma had called him to say that my cousin, Jeffrey, died yesterday. He has had heart problems for years, and doctors have been completely unable to figure out what's been wrong with him. But his RESTING heart rate is only like 30 (normal people are like 70-80). He was out with some friends and went into cardiac arrest yesterday. He was like 25. He has a wife, Beth, and a 5-year old daughter, December. How do you explain to a 5-year old that Daddy is gone and isn't ever coming back? They're doing the autopsy tomorrow. I don't know if I'll be able to go to the funeral, but I hope so...
I remember when we were younger, Jeffrey would play Jurassic Park with Steffen, Lindsey, Lesley and me. He would always be the dinosaur... well, actually he was a morphing dinosaur. He could change from a T-Rex to a Raptor to a Pterodactyl to a Dilophosaurus. I miss Jeffy :(
