So I just wanted to make a post saying that I am and that we should all be grateful for what we have. Just the week that I have been here and already I can see how I'm lucky with my life and what I have. The culture and people here are very poor if you compare it to the US. But at the same time they are rich in other ways. I mean if you look at the basics they live their life the same as most people. Go to work, bring a lunch because it's too expensive to eat out, take a bus to and from work because cars are expensive, have family at home and friends if they are young to hang out with. It's not a lot different from what i see in the US. Some of you might say that parts of that are horrible. For example I eat out on most days and we have not only a car but a personal driver while we are here. We are staying in a place that has AC where as most people do not. But I have lived a poorer life before. I have been that person riding the bus. I have been that person so broke that they have hardly a bite to eat. To be honest I think that it's harder to be all of that in the US where people are more priviledged then it is to in a place like CR or PH where the culture in general is more poor. Maybe that sounds like I'm trying to say that I'm like some saint for dealing with it. No, that isn't what I mean at all. What I mean is that I have lived a lot of things in my life and I think that it makes me have a good perspective and understanding with others. For example some people come here and see the culture and say, oh my god these poor people. They don't have anything and we need to give them things so that they can be happy. But that's not true. Sure sometimes they might need some help from a friend to pay for a hospital bill or something. But in general they live happy lives and they are happy. And to feel bad for them is like an insult. Well, at least that is how i feel. and of course there will always be those people that really are completely poor and that they do need help but those are not the people that you see day to day in the office or city.
The problem with Gringos is that they blow everything out of proportion. I don't wish to be one of those people.
