Gave birth

My student delivered a healthy little girl, naturally. Her math teacher, with whom she has a very good relationship, will be tutoring her in most subjects. I had class with the teacher today so we got to chat a bit. The student thinks she can return to school in two weeks, silly girl. Oh, and the baby's name is a word spelled backwards.

Why not in two weeks? Do you think she will be taking care of that baby? Most likely her parents will do it, and she will just "stick around".

I hope she will breast-feed it, which will require being around it most of the time, which will preclude returning to school so soon. However, if they do formula and the parents take care of the baby, the only issue is the physical recovery from birth, which for someone that age is probably a lot quicker than for someone our age!

Exactly. I would be SO surprised if she were to breastfeed!

that depends on her home culture, which I don't know enough about.

No, she will try to do both. This child is an overachiever, she just doesn't understand her limits.

An "overachiever", indeed. :(

Not all cultures view school achievement as the only way to succeed in life.
