Got another go at putting the preschool set down to sleep. This time I planned ahead, and laid out a comforter on the floor next to the two beds. Ali said she wants to sleep on it, so M. has the bed. Jase went down a bit earlier, he's out like a light. I put M. into bed, she seems to have settled into it. Ali comes in a few minutes later, lays down on her makeshift bed approvingly. She sometimes goes to sleep on the floor on her own. Carpet is great in the kids' bedroom.
Five minutes later I hear squeals coming from there. Jase is still sound asleep. M. is sitting on the floor playing on an overturned laundry tub left there. I put on my meanest face and whisper angrily for those two to get back into beds. M. leaps over and plops on her bed, Ali skooches up under her blanket and grabs Vasya. I leave the room and start giggling.
Another five minutes goes by and their grunts and chatter become audible again. I come in with my mean face on. Jase is still sleeping soundly, Ali is in her bed with Vasya, M. is rolling around on hers, eyes wide open. I tell them to go to sleep before they wake Jason up, and if I hear anymore noise, someone is going to go to sleep somewhere else. After closing the door, I get transported back 25 or so years, sharing a room at the dacha with my cousin and giggling in the dark after the grownups yell at us to be quiet.
Five more minutes and the giggles are loud again. This time Jase wakes up, sort of, grabs Mika, and turns away from the girls, rolling up in his blanket. I promise the girls that the next time I hear noise, M., who's the most awake, will be going to sleep on the lovesac in the playroom. I dearly don't want to have to carry this threat out, because she won't go to sleep easily amid the toys and I'll have to watch her for a while. But no going back now. Still cute, though. If they all do fall asleep in the bedroom, I'll take a pic.
