Rick had been kind of glad when he heard on the news that there was going to be a few inches of snow. That was Alexis and his favorite part of winter. Well that and his homemade chili. Castle had gone to bed after he and Alexis had a movie night and she wanted to watch ’Beauty and the Beast’ it was her favorite movie as a child and whenever they watched it together it reminded him of that. He wasn’t all that excited about her going off to college soon and leaving him in the city all by himself.
The moment Castle had gotten up that morning he had seen that the blizzard had snuck up on the state of New York. He had already learned his lesson before. He knew better he was going to stay in his apartment and wait it out and if necessary he would walk to where he was going but he was not going to be driving it the weather it was looking bad as it was already.
Castle had seen that all schools were closed so Alexis was going to be staying home as it had been awhile since him and his daughter had spent a day together it was usually him at the precinct or her at her friends or boyfriend’s, Ashley, they had decided to make some hot chocolate as he started to heat up the milk. He was never one that could drink it with water.
He was always the type to use milk because it was so much more creamier. He slowly stirred the saucepan filled with milk as he still didn’t know where his mother was as he dialed her number putting the phone to his ear hoping that maybe she’d answer the phone so he’d know that she was alright. When she answered the phone he was relieved and she promised she was fine and that she would wait out the storm there instead of trying to get back to the loft.
After Rick got off the phone with his mother he tossed the phone onto the counter as the loft was getting a little chilly as he walked over to the thermostat and turned it up a bit. The cold floor stealing what little heat he did have from his feet causing his to shiver. After the milk was heated up he started to put them into two cups adding some hot chocolate mix to the cups as he stirred them. As if right on cue Alexis came down stairs her red hair sticking out everywhere smiling at him as she saw the hot chocolate. She already knew that would probably mean they could watch a movie together as well. He nodded his head as he already knew the question.
Alexis ran back upstairs as she already knew the movie that she wanted to watch with her dad he was just hoping it wouldn’t be ’Beauty and the Beast’ again. He walked over to the couch setting both of the mugs down. Sure he liked the movie, but not enough to watch it two days in a row.
Rick sat down on the couch as he pulled the light purple fleece blanket off the back of the couch. He didn’t know when it was put there but he didn’t care he was starting to get cold and he was even considering going upstairs to get on a heavier pair of pajamas. He wrapped the blanket around his shoulders as he waited for Alexis to come back down the stairs to get started.
Rick smiled as the red head happily bounced down the stairs putting the DVD into the DVD player as he wasn’t able to catch the title of the movie and what it was about. He looked to his daughter as she just smiled at him telling him that they were going to watch ‘The Little Mermaid’ it seemed the Disney was going to be a recurring theme with her for this week, as a smile came across his lips. He always did cherish the moments he got to spend with his daughter, especially when the two of them watched movies together. It was kind of like their thing.
Alexis came over to the couch as she sat down next to her father, as she cuddled next to him stealing his warmth, as Rick got cold.
“You are stealing my heat,” he playfully whined to his daughter, as she looked up to him rolling her eyes at him. That was a thing she loved about her dad, his playfulness and sense of humor.
“I’m sure you’ll survive father,” she mocked him as a small smile graced her lips as the main menu credits appeared on the large television screen. As Richard quickly poked his arms out of the blanket clicking the play button as it shot back under the blanket quite quickly.
The opening credits started to appear on the screen, as this was probably one of his more favorite Disney movie right next to Tangled, though he would never admit that to anyone for any reason, because what guy wants to admit that. If he ever got caught that he had seen them he would of course blame his loving daughter.
Not long into the movie he felt himself singing along to the movie, as Alexis next to him nudged him giving him a big grin, as she sang along with him. This was probably the happiest that Castle had felt in some time, working had caused him to become drained emotionally and physically as of late. And to be able to let loose and let out his inner child, maybe a little more in a noticeable way than normal, but it felt refreshing.
Almost as soon as he was singing along the movie was coming to an end as he glanced over to the red head next to him as she noticed that she was fast asleep, he let a smile push at the corner of his lips as he scooped her up and headed upstairs. The writer opened her door as he placed her in the bed tucking her in. This had really been a walk down memory lane. He couldn’t remember the last time that he had taken his daughter upstairs after watching Disney movies for most of the day and tucking her in. He really enjoyed the feeling.
