007 / Nip/Tuck Tutorial

Jan 17, 2007 09:18

Program: Photoshop
Level: Beginner to Intermediate
Notes: This tutorial includes selective coloring and is my first one so bear with me.

First, we'll start out by opening the picture in Photoshop. I opened this promotional screencap from Nip/Tuck.

Then we'll cropped it and rotate it horizontally so that it looks like this:

Next, we'll duplicate the base layer and set it to screen and desaturate it. (If your base is bright, set it to soft light)

Make a new layer, fill it with #090D30 and set it to exclusion

Then make another new layer, filled it with #F1F0A3 and set it to soft light

Then make; guess what? Yet another new layer and fill it with #74E2E6 at soft light 16%

Now for the Selective coloring part. Make a new selective coloring layer, and set to lighten with the following settings. (I borrowed the selective coloring part from another tutorial awhile back. I changed some of the settings but if it looks familiar to someone's, let me know and I will credit.)
Reds:
Cyan: -100
Magenta: +1
Yellow: +100
Black: +100

Yellows:
Cyan: -22
Yellow: -20

Greens:
Cyan: +100
Magenta: +100

Cyans:
Cyan: -2

Blues:
Cyan: +53
Magenta: +79

Magentas:
Cyan: -100
Magenta: -100
Yellow: -100

Neutrals:
Cyan: -1
Magenta: +1
Yellow: -41

Your icon should now look a little something like this:

Duplicate your base layer and set to soft light

Alright and now we'll make a new selective coloring (don't worry, it's not as intricate as the last one) layer, set to 62% opacity with the following settings:
Reds:
Cyan: -100
Magenta: +100
Yellow: +100
Black: +100

Now it should look like this:

Take this texture by ewanism and set to color burn 100%. And ta dah! You're done. It should look something like this:

If you like your results don't hesitate to show them to me, I'd love to see what your icon looks like!
