When Dr. Angel-Cann said that we were going to be going over Shakespeare, the first thing to pop into my head was Romeo & Juliet. And I was excited. Who doesn’t love a tragic love story that deals with forbidden love? I sure know I do. But when she decided hamlet I still was optimistic, I had never read that one before. So as I read it through the first time, I’ll admit, it was hard to understand something’s that they were saying at times. Reading that form of English is complicated, but I thought the overall idea of the story was pretty good.
What really surprised me was how when we got to class the next day and she said we would be watching the latest remake of the video, everything got better. While watching, the parts that I couldn’t really understand at first while reading were clear and understandable. It’s amazing how just by seeing the way they looked as they spoke and how the people around them looked. It makes noticing things like a spark of hate easier than just from reading.
Also it made the story come more to life in the way that they had the ghost and the whole castle; it really let you get a feel for the setting of the play. Another thing I really enjoyed was the character they picked to play the parts. Each one of them brought a certain element to Hamlets characters that really made a positive addition to the play; they did an excellent job.
