well, it is time to cut unnecessary sugar intake out of my diet for two weeks. i mentioned
earlier that my body has been telling me more explicitly what it needs, including food-wise, but apart from knowing when i ought to be eating what, i've generally just been eating more of everything without worrying about it - and honestly also i've been using regular exercise as an excuse to eat sugary things more often. (and for all my sugar tolerance has gone down over the past year, it has gone up again this semester! boooo.)
of course i need it sometimes, but also it's the same as the "hybrid cars drive more often" problem - so as i, ah, "learn to use public transportation" instead, i hope/expect to find some new bits of mental trickery that will make it work. for example: zack making smoothies with me earlier reflected on his days on a no-dessert diet; using fruit to stand in for no added sweeteners, and so on - also, apparently it's easy (for some people) for sugar cravings and water cravings to get confused with each other? excess soda consumption seems to blame, which i don't do, so i'm not sure if drinking water more often will help (i already drink a ton of water all the time), although i do know i sometimes have milk cravings that are hard to identify. other possible tricks might include eating squash soup more often, which is an excellent sweet-ish thing.
perhaps this will also be a time for developing my pastry cheffery to have a sharper intuition for when sugar is a necessary structural component and when it is not. (i already usually use half to three-quarters the recommended amount in any recipe, and rarely have problems.)
