North Carolina

I woke up today 500 miles from home in a familiar bed with a splitting headache.

It's somewhat surreal here. The sun is warm on my face, and the breeze is cool through my shirt. Overhead is bright blue streaked with the occasional white - unusual for one who is used to scenery being wrapped entirely in pittsburgh-grey - and everything is almost too bright. Except in the shade, the grass and other flora are vibrant green and dazzling to look at.

I spent yesterday travelling, explaining process control groups to my mother and lambda calculus to my dad, then eating and watching the penguins beat the hurricanes. I played contact and tetrinet and had conversations with at least nine people, and as I lay down in bed at the end of the evening it hit me all at once that it's summer vacation. No time before then, even on the 28x to the airport as memories of the past year flowed around me, had it actually felt like summer yet.

Still waiting on hearing back from my google host. As good and relaxing as it is to be in my family's house for a while, I'm still quite anxious to get out to the bay area where I could swear the population of people I know is currently higher than pittsburgh's.

look around you, travel, hope
