Y. Sorry for delay, got unexpectedly yoinked away to visit family! timetours December 20 2009, 12:06:22 UTC
"Oh, well, you see..." the Doctor floundered for a moment, before settling on what he thought was a pretty good excuse, "given that everything else has descended into some sort of... nonsensy nonsense land, the lake very well could be listening."

He thrust his hands into the pockets of his trousers, reminding himself of the hope that said trousers were actually going to dry out sometime soon, and just glanced casually in Soma's direction. What kind of person would be here?

Well, from what the Doctor could tell, he was human. Somehow, that didn't surprise him at all.

"I take it this is all somehow normal to you, is it?"

Excuse accepted! The Doctor found himself grinning. "There we go, then! And I could say the same - been around time and space, seen close enough to everything, I have! This place is probably the oddest thing I've come across. Well..." as if thinking, he swayed lightly from side to side. "One of them at any rate! So!"

Practically bouncing, he stepped over to the man. "That'll make me another prisoner 'til we get it sorted. Nice to meet you, I'm the Doctor."

"Oh, I'm a doctor," the Doctor said, pleasant as anything. "Doctor of anything and everything! More fun that way. Now then, Soma..."

He leaned forward a little. "Best to get to know who everyone is, where and when they come from and all that... planets, countries, dates... just looking for patterns, really. What kind of places this, um, well... voidy-thing is pulling in."

Oh yes, the Doctor was certainly determined to find out what was going on. It was sort of his thing really - land somewhere, find a problem, fix the problem, then fly off to do it somewhere else. And here, there was definitely a problem. Who knew what this thing was sucking into itself?

"Nah. It's a pretty straight-forward way of asking where you're from, I figured," the Doctor said, grinning. "Oh, and when. When's helpful too."

Oh, the Doctor could certainly relate to almost getting killed. He must have been almost killed a million times. Still, it didn't stop him from getting into trouble - already on his tenth incarnation, he was.

"Oooh, you're Japanese," the Doctor observed. "21st Century, too... I like the 21st Century, you know, one of my favourites. Been a long time since I last visited Japan, mind. Couple of decades, give or take. Maybe I ought to go have a wander once we've got this situation here sorted."

"A door, once opened, may be passed through both ways," the Doctor replied, quoting something Madame de Pompadour had told him - not entirely relevant to the situation, given that the topic was actually telepathy, but it worked. "Unless, of course, some idiot's gone and locked it, but!" And here, he raised a finger, as if struck by a genius idea. "Then we just need to find the key, don't we? And if what the Bookman's told me is right, some people already went back out of our catflap just as mysteriously as they came through."

"Ah. No, 'fraid he didn't," the Doctor admitted. "Not all that much was said, to be honest. Of course, I must admit, I got the impression that nobody really knows how - but then again, nobody really knows how they got here in the first place, am I right?"
