For my first post in 2 months, I've picked a totally frivolous topic. Given my current state of mind (due to studying for the bar), this is about all I can muster.
Thanks to a generous friend who gave ma an Amazon.com gift card, I picked up a copy of Guitar Hero World Tour. Played it yesterday for the first time, and here are my thoughts.
Sense of Humor: this goes hand-down to GH. They have always been masters of the amusing cut scene in their games.
Random Band Name Generator: GH has a really amusing random band name generator, which is great for people like me who can't come up with anything on their own. My GH band is called Ninja Cupcakes. How awesome is that.
Avatar Creation: this one goes to RB. RB makes it very straightforward to make a completely unique avatar. GH wants you to start from a list of pre-set characters and edit from there.
Songs: This one is a toss up. It's nice to have some new songs to play that aren't available on Rock Band, notably some good classic rock tunes. However, I like how RB has included some "not quite rock" music, like The Grateful Dead, etc.
Tour options: I appreciate GH's guided career tour and how you can choose if you are touring solo or with your band. RB2 just has one tour function no matter if it's just you playing or you and your bandmates.
UI: I've often found the GH UI to be a bit difficult to work with for me. They put the power meter over on the side, so I have to take my eyes off of the notes to see if I have overdrive available. The look of GH is also more cartoonish, but I don't mind that at all.
Overall Impressions. I like GH: World Tour and will play through the game and add songs from the store, but I don't know if I will have the same level of commitment to it that I do to Rock Band.
Anyone else want to chime in with an opinion?
