More on life with Smithers

I've been looking for an excuse to post my first LJ entry from Smithers, and this seemed as good a reason as any. I want to give a huge thank you to waysofseeing for doing the hard work of installing Parallels and getting Windows XP up and running.

I'm quickly adjusting to the Mac. Some of the menus, shortcuts, mouse tricks, etc are different than what I am used to, but I am finding the transition to be very quick. And I am finding that I like the things that are different. For one thing, I love the little shelf at the bottom of my screen that holds my frequently used programs.

The only glitches so far have involved Parallels and Windows. Nothing serious, but I will need to figure a few things out -- namely how to access the folder that Parallels creates so you can share documents across the two systems. I found it on the Windows side, but I can't figure out where it is on the Mac side. I am going to have to reformat my iPod since it's a Windows formatted device, but all of the music on the iPod is also on Smithers, so I won't lose anything.

Otherwise, I really need to stop staying up late working on the Mac. I'm not getting enough sleep.

I promise that I'll stop rambling on about Smithers soon; I am sure the novelty will wear off.
