Landlord said we could get one, but we'd have to pay a 575 deposit plus an additional 25 per month on rent+ whatever care costs it takes to keep a cat!!! We're currently trying to save for a baby, pay off student loans and save for a home. Additional bills are not needed. I

From personal experience: You may want to wait until after baby is born to get a kitty. And, if you do eventually get one, you might want to choose a cat instead of a kitten, because their personalities are more stable. They already have a personality developed, and you can see better if they'll be good or bad with kids. Plus, kittens are more expensive with more vet visits, special kitten food, and more toys (they tear up toys muuuch faster, too).
I love my kitty, but I do now wish he was a full-grown cat when we got him... lol
