but if eating a bowl of cereal will make me feel better, then i think that's quite alright
pirates (the first) was on USA tonight. i recorded it while i was at work so i can watch it tomorrow. and actually stay awake. maybe then i'll go see the second. eventually.
i have done more cashiering the last three days than i probably have all summer. seriously. ick. at least tonight i was just breaker, so i got to move around. the last two days i had been on an express lane, which just sucks. at least i get a break from it tomorrow with 8 hours as operator! :-) i've never done it before for more than an hour or so at a time, but i'm all about spending my day sitting in the fitting room, answering phones and sorting clothes.
my first hour of work pretty much made me want to throw things today. at people. specific people, but people. early on i had a guest who had to pretty much tell me how she wanted each individual item bagged. seriously. i just wanted to slap her. it started with wanting her half-gallon of orange juice double-bagged because it's heavy. it also had to be laying on it's side. and then i received specific instruction for bagging each of her 15-20 items. she allowed me to start bagging each of her groceries, and then she changed her mind on how they should be bagged. i was so damn close to throwing them at her. my god. if you are going to be that picky about how your groceries are bagged, then bag them yourself, dammit. and then the next guest, taking example from the previous guest, looked at me questioningly while i was sorting her items before bagging them and told me how i could put them in the bags. but when i told her i was just trying to sort her groceries so i didn't have to put her cans on top of her produce, she shut her mouth. and, well, there are certain team members who always drive me crazy... so, of course, there was some of that too.
but there was one thing that just made the day at work happy and worthwhile (okay... the paycheck makes it worthwhile, but you know...). sometime after 9:30, i was down at lane 28-ish, standing out in front waiting for guests, like a good little cashier. a guest was walking up, and i greeted him, invited him into my lane, and started ringing him up and talking to him. he then said to me "you with the star i'm friendly award of the day". :-D it's too bad the computer didn't print up a survey opportunity. he would have given us high marks... and maybe a nice comment about me! and i think he should win the car in the drawing. and if he won the car, i'd win $100. and that would be cool. but he didn't get a survey thing. so he doesn't get to win the car. nor does he give the company nice comments about me. that's too bad.
random... for those of you who shop at targets outside of my district (and since there are only 10 stores in my district, that should mean most of you)... have you seen the incentives for the surveys on the receipts? every couple of guests get a thing that prints on the bottom of their receipt asking them to take a survey on target.com and they'll get entered in a drawing for something big like a plasma TV or a $1000 giftcard or something. right now in our district the drawing is for a new saturn sky, which looks pretty hott (it even prints a picture on the reciept!). is that what they're doing everywhere, or does it vary by district? kinda random, but if you've noticed at your local store, let me know.
another happy thing from tonight - when i was on my break, i was wandering the floor shopping a bit, and i ran into drew! i'm honestly not really sure the last time i saw him... i hadn't seen much of him at school since i stopped hanging around the theatre. it turns out he's living practically within spitting distance of here. i'm hardly kidding. i'll bet in the winter when the trees are bare i can actually see his place from here. he just lives on the other side of the lake/creek/ravine thing, next door to the apartments where we first lived here. apparently he interviewed for a job teaching math at chaska high, but didn't get it. he has an interview in savage this week. i'm still just kind of in awe that a loras alum came here after graduation. his girlfriend has been here for a year, so he followed her. but still, wow.
i'm watching the cosby show. hehe... i like rudy huxtable's (the youngest daughter) attitude:
dr. huxtable: "what makes him your boyfriend?"
rudy: "i told him he was."
well, i've got about 7 hours before i have to leave for work... i should probably get some sleep. i was considering sleeping in the basement because my room is ridiculously hot/stuffy... but my bed is so much more comfortable than this couch. decisions, decisions...
