Not as quick as I might have liked with my update. But life unexpectedly throws you hurdles, just like I have.
Cut a long story short, I had an excess of the fluid in the pocket between the tendons and the bones in my elbow. Not a big deal, right? But then they had to shove a big needle in it to drain it, and take antibiotics. Painful, but not bad. Until you have a reaction to the antibiotics and spend the next few days in hospital… Yep, only me.
Anyway, what should I write about next? How about Townsville?
The night after States, when I was sore, tired (both mentally and physically) and I was on a late night flight to Townsville, over the other side of Australia. Jayden was racing there that weekend, and he put off some of his practice sessions so that he could stay in Perth and watch us in finals for longer. How sweet is he?! So then I spent the weekend there.
It was a bit odd, leaving behind the people I’d just spent the last fortnight of my life with. But a couple were with us, Juddy, Erin and Ash. A few of us went over to watch Jayden. Juddy was absolutely spewing that weekend, because as a Geelong supporter, he was sitting with me, the West Coast Eagles supporter. And Eagles beat Geelong. That was an interesting flight having to sit next to him…
The weekend was really good. Jayden and the team did really well with minimal damage. Just some paint scrapes, nothing structural. It went really, really well.
And then after that weekend, it was home to Perth. But just on a short stop. Not long after we arrived back in Perth (so short was the stop that I didn’t even leave Perth Airport) and we met up with the rest of the team again, headed for some Bali fun!
For us, choosing to take everyone to Bali over the holiday break after competing in States was a brilliant idea. It gave everyone the chance to celebrate their wins after such a few weeks of aches, pains and training. It paid off the achievements and we got to do it together.
Juddy brought his family, I brought mine, we picked up the girls. Off we were!
Bali was, amazing. As always. Warm, tropical, sunny… BLISS!
It had it’s downsides. I was taken into police custody (This is no joke!) because they believed I did not hold an international licence. However, I did. We just had to prove that. Seriously some of the most intense moments of my life. Bali is not a place where you want to have anything happen with Police. I don’t want to use the word corruption… but it does come to mind.
But it was all okay, I was fine to go. But copped the digs about it for the rest of the week. All part of the holiday experience, right?
And on one of the days, we lost Jayden and Juddy in the middle of the main shopping aisle! And we lost them for about half a day. It was really quite funny.
We shopped, went nightclubbing most nights, relaxed by the pool. It was so much fun.
And while we were there, my Benny turned one! Unbelievable. On his birthday, Mum was shopping and we had him with us near the pool. And I fed him a snow cone. It was so funny, but he loved it. It was a great birthday.
Our flights got cancelled. If I remember correctly, we were supposed to be flying back to Australia on the Wednesday. And we didn’t even find out why the flights were cancelled. But we weren’t worried. More time to party on!
But by Friday and we still didn’t have flights. I understood; we were travelling in a big group which is hard to find seats for at short notice. And we couldn’t split up, because we had a duty of care. Finally, on Saturday, we got news that we would be flying out of Bali in the early hours of Sunday morning.
I wasn’t absolutely thrilled; I wanted to get home to watch the West Coast Eagles take on the Fremantle Dockers in a rivalry derby! And we, as a team, were all going to watch together.
On the Saturday night, we checked out of our hotel, and hit the night clubs! Hell, we had a few hours before we had to get to the airport, we were going to have some fun.
So as it turns out, we went from a nightclub to the airport. Our flight got delayed a bit, and we arrived back in Perth on Sunday morning. We all went out to breakfast together, completely exhausted.
Then off to the most nail-biting derby game of football I’d ever seen. But thankfully, my Eagles won. Whoop, whoop!
After that, it was time for us to part ways again. The girls went home to their families after more than three weeks away.
I know it’s not the end though. We’re an amazing team and I sure hope it won’t be the last of it. We’re taking a few weeks break before there’s a bit of training and we’ll keep competing, us netballers, dancers and volleyballers.
The time of my life.
Best wishes,
