I must say I am concerned for the amount of profanities used by the kitchen staff.  People with such anger managment issues should not be allowed around knives and boiling water. Some poor soul is bound to lose an eye.

[Private to Severus Snape]

Severus, I found those books you spoke of in the library and I must exclaim they are brimmed with ( Read more... )

You are a witch?

That I am, a position I am justly proud of.

I assume you are as well, since you were able to read and reply to the query.

Indeed. My name is Gellert Grindelwald. I am a wizard. And your name, my dear?

Glinda. It's so lovely to meet another wizard. Why have we not conversed before?

I'm not certain of that. But fate has brought us together now, yes?

Witches seem to be rare around here.

It does seem that way.

Aren't we all rare? I have met only a few magic users here, all wardens of course. Are you an inmate or a warden?

I am an inmate at present. Do you know Dr Hix? He is my warden.

Probably not as rare as you think - it's all that secrecy that makes magical people seem to be even rarer.

I see. What was your crime?

Secrecy? Do you believe the magic folk on this ship have anything to hide from the public. I certainly do not. My witchship was a title in Oz.

That was my crime... I wanted to bring the wizards and witches of my world out of hiding - there is a law that makes us remain hidden away from the non-magical population. I believed this was wrong - but my fellow wizards didn't agree and so they fought against me.

That sounds oddish. I do not see how that could be a reason for being incarcerated here.

Unless of course your methods were wicked.

I do admit I had to use some perhaps... extreme methods with people who simply would not listen to reason. All for the greater good, of course. If I had succeeded it would have been a peaceful world, magical and non-magical people living side by side... Unfortuntely others could not see so far ahead. They prefered to stay frightened and hidden.

What are they frightened of?

The Muggles. That's the name in my world for non-magical humans. Their numbers are greater than ours and they have a history of persecuting witches and wizards - so the law was made for use to remain hidden - the so-called Statute of Secrecy. Hundreds of years ago... and very outdated in my opinion.

Muggles. I see.

My Oz, that sounds terrible. Why would they attack you in such a fashion? Were the wizards of that time known for their wickedness?

No, they just didn't like the unknown or they thought they could use our magic for their own personal gain. As a child I was warned that if I went near them they would set me on fire...

I am so sorry to hear that happened to you, Gellert.
