James "Jimmy" Nations

James O. Nations, age 76, of Brandon, MS, passed away Sunday December 6, 2009, at GV Sonny Montgomery Memorial VA Hospital. Visitation will be Sunday December 13, 2009 at 1pm, followed at 2pm by a Memorial Service to be held in the chapel at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, with burial in San Diego, CA at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. Pastor Mark Kangar will officiate over the service.
Jimmy was a loving husband, a proud father and grandfather, and devoted minister. Jimmy served 24 and a half years in the US Navy as a Chaplain, 6 years as Director of Pastoral Care at Mississippi State Hospital, as well as serving as pastor for New Salem Baptist Church, Kosciusko, MS, Oakvale Baptist Church, Oakvale, MS, Lexie Baptist Church, Tylertown, MS, and Temple Baptist Church, New Orleans, LA. Jimmy earned his Bachelor of Arts from Mississippi College in 1957, Master of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1964, and Master of Science in Marriage, Family and Child counseling from La Verne College in 1976. Jimmy graduated from Officer Training at U.S. Naval Schools Command, Newport, RI in 1968. His parents James Monroe Nations and Vida Belle Stevens Nations preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife W. Faye Thomas Nations of Brandon, MS; children, Wanda Nations, Rebecca Bigbie, Deborah Parkinson, and Karol Nations of San Diego, CA, and Jon Nations of Brandon, MS; grandchildren, Tyler Bigbie, Erika Bigbie, and Kayla Parkinson of San Diego, CA; siblings, Dorothy Boutwell, and Zula Marler of Jackson, MS, and Glenn Nations of Raymond, MS; and one niece and six nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be made in his name to Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children, 2500 North State St, Jackson, MS 39216.
