Lots on both. I'll talk shop first.
-The latest CNN polls are making Jesusland- no longer just one or two states, but a good chunk of it- look like a batch of swing states. I'm impressed. It gives me a little more hope. If you don't know where exactly Jesusland is, look it up on Google or Wikipedia.
-Today was basically operation voter registration. Today (Tuesday) was the last day we could register folks to vote using green cards. People can still register in Farmtown, but now they have to do it at the town office & bring a utilities bill/good piece of mail and photo ID. Kae/Trixie Jack helped us register folks and we got 10 people between 5:30 and 6. I then went down to hit $ Movie Night & whore the line witha clip board & Kelley, and we got 27-30 folks. Which means we have 443-450 students at UMF registered... in 4 weeks.
The Obama Camp wanted 500 by GOTV weekend. Few of us thought 500 was possible, but 450 is pretty damn impressive. That's... roughly 1/5 of UMF. Not counting how many people are already registered at UMF. I'm going to estimate that counting these 450, over half of UMF is registered to vote... or at least those who have the feeblest inkling of wanting to vote now can. This is good.
-Ann got endorsed by the Kennebec Journal! Click the link to read about it.
http://kennebecjournal.mainetoday.com/view/columns/5494351.html Go Ann!
-I want to do an event with Ann & Janet next week or the week after. We'll see how that goes. Maybe have Janet & Ann together on Tuesday and just Ann on Thursday? Hmmm. I feel like we haven't done enough publicity for them, and I'm concerned how they will do. Obama will take UMF, and Allen... Allen has been asked to come to UMF four times & declined all four. Janet & Ann could use a boost though.
-The Green/Sustainable Campus Coalition is offering to let clubs go around & help insulate people's houses. We get to help people, AND we get some good name recognition... like constituent services.
- The handwarmers are done. I just need to buy some buttons for them. Very happy.
-I'm starting the sweater again. It's going to be a raglan this time, but I found a book at Mantor that is a complete freaking godsend and has cut the guesswork and mental agony out of gauge/size/bust/sleeve work. I'll have to chart out the pattern on graph paper, but after doing intarsia with the handwarmers, I kind of just want a simple, one-color sweater. I don't know, but I do know I'll need to catch a ride to Imeldas in about a month. It should require 1,550 yards of yarn, and a ball of yarn = 200 yards. That's 8 balls. Right now there are 2. Hello $30 of yarn. Still, it'll be worth it to have a sweater that isn't on its last strands.
-I'm thinking of knitting companion cubes & selling them for $5 a piece at the Otaku con next semester.
