Bad News & Bad Breaks & Prayer requests

Today I went to Sit & Knit at the yarn store in Rutland. Not so much an official one, more like "Keep Mary Company." (Mary used to work on the traditional sit & knit days, but was moved to work Saturdays only.)

Mary gets a call from MJ, who co-owns the store and runs the sister store in Finger Lakes, NY. They're talking inventory, and MJ goes, "So, I guess you heard about Kathleen?" Kathleen is the other store owner, and runs the one in Rutland. I believe shes in her 70's or 80's. However, I never ask anyone how old anyone is, so no one knows her age but her husband. She is in Colorado on business, as she's a workaholic for her other main job.

She had a heart attack. She had been going to her room, but didn't feel well, and decided to go to a public restroom instead of a private one. Good thing. She collapsed shortly after entering, and another person there called for a medic. She had a 100% blockage of her artery. The medical folks put in a stint. She recently went on a gluten free diet, maybe of 6 months? The medical folks stated that had she not changed her diet and exercise, they doubted she'd have lived.

In addition, Mary's son in law is sitting in jail, waiting to go to a hearing on Monday. William is from El Salvador, and fled to the US to escape gang violence. He's been i teh US for a few years, was denied asylum, appealed, was denied, and is appealing again. The reason for denial is because gang violence is not considered a reason to get asylum from El Salvador. I won't get into the details, but if he goes back, there is a very high chance he'll be killed in a short period of time. The last two people who came to the US for the same reason were deported back- and were both dead within two weeks.

William and Rhea were in Jackson, and were told by their lawyer that they had to be in Colorado to finish a certain piece of paperwork. We don't believe the lawyer knew it at the time, but it turned out to be a trap- they could have gone to Salt Lake, which was under WY jurisdiction. After doing the paperwork, one of the ICE (Immigration & Customs Enforment) told William he needed to speak to him for a second. The guys beat the shit out of him and threw him in jail, so he couldn't skip the court meeting. (Which he would have, since if the judge didn't agree with him, he'd be dragged onto the plane to go back to El Salvador immediately afterwards.) Rhea is freaking out. The 28th is her birthday, and she's looking at never seeing her husband alive again if they send him back.

If you pray, please send prayers to Kathleen, William, and Rhea.
