That was great! I adore constructed reality vids and you did a marvelous job of bringing the new reality to life. Great use of standard clips interspersed with constructed clips. For a moment I even thought I'd forgotten Spike spying on Angel and Buffy in the graveyard. (I've forgotten, right?) Anyway, spectacular use of clips and internal movement. Loved when all the clips started zooming. I'm a whore for effects. Nicely done.

p.s. jossversecinema is another great place to post your vids on LJ, if you aren't already.

The Buffy in the monitors was an excellent effect! Very well done. Really set the tone for the vid. And it's still a trick I have yet to master.

I am also happy that you enjoyed the effect of Buffy in the computer monitor. That took me forever to do. It involved a combo of masking and re-sizing.

What editing software are you using? For the last 2 1/2 years or so I have been using Vegas, which I love.

I've been using Vegas 4 for the last year or so and just bought (as in it came this week and was just installed) Vegas 6. With 7 coming out I found a site that was selling the older version for only $99! I bought it really quick. With the vob editing ability I couldn't resist, as I'd been having editable codec issues forever.

Long story short, I adore Vegas as well!

Masking is one of those things I'm still working on learning. Any tuts or tips are always adored. *bg*

Man, it is funny because it seems like everyone I talk to either gets Vegas for free through "connections".. LOL, or finds it for a really in-expensive price. Almost three years ago when I bought Vegas, I paid the full 500 for V5. I have been asking various people who use V7 what the difference is, and why I should upgrade. They tell me they are basically the same ( ... )

I was actually disappointed that I didn't see any new effects with Vegas 6. I'm going to be really interested to see what differences there are besides the vob editing.

And you're lucky you can edit with vobs in 5. I know you aren't supposed to. I do have version 5 as well but I liked something about 4 more, so kept using 4. And yes, I got both of those through "connections". But with a registered version of 6 I think ac3 audio is editable so I wouldn't have to worry about audio issues that I've read about. And for only 99....it was a steal.

Thanks for the quick tut on masking. You make it sound really easy so I'll have to test it out for my next vid.

And an aspiring professional editor, wow! Most the people I know just do this for fun. *lol* The first vid I did was as a joke for a friend.

Well, if you find out any tricks or tips from school, I always love to learn more. I know lots of people like After Effects but so far I've just been happy learning what Vegas itself can do.

Yeah it is strange because tons of people have told me that VOB files don't work in V5 and it has worked for me. I do recommend getting V-Dub though for when you experience flickers and blackouts. It sucks because one thing Vegas is notorious for is blackouts in the timeline. A clip will be playing fine, and then all of a sudden, you will get a patch of black. I have been told that it is because Vegas hates MPEG format. But it is weird because all of my BTVS media is in AVI format which Vegas suppoedly loves. All I can say is that V-Dub has helped me out a lot in this area ( ... )

Yeah, YouTube is a foreign land to me. I got into fandom vids before YouTube got big. Now I'm kicking myself I didn't find a way to invest in it. *lol* Most fandom vidders don't use it to showcase their vids. I see them going to Imeem. Or something of that vein for streaming. I don't know. I'm pretty behind the times actually. I just have my webpage and I call it good.

A clip will be playing fine, and then all of a sudden, you will get a patch of black. I have been told that it is because Vegas hates MPEG format. That was my big issue too! Not the black though. I'd open my veg file and all the clips would be blank! They'd be there in the proper places in the time line but nothing would be inside. It was bizarre! I was told it must have had something to do with editing with mpegs, so I dumped all my old files (which took me months to make) and haven't vidded since. That's why I jumped so fast for Vegas 6! No more encoding with vob editing....ideally. Hopefully since 6 is designed for it I won't have the same problems. But we'll see. I ( ... )

Hey Sharvie.

Rotoscoping is masking a moving image with keyframes. Let's say you have an image that you want to mask. But it is in motion and whenever it moves, the original background is revealed. You have to step in keyframe by keyframe and adjust the anchor points so that the original background is covered up. Rotoscoping sucks, and I hate doing it.

It is weird that all of your stuff is blank. The only time that happened to me is when my stuff went offline because my media drive became unplugged.

darker_spike is a great Spike comm. Just so you know, due to its adult nature it's locked to keep the kiddies out. We get a bit naughty in there. *g*

And Keyframing! Yes! When I stumbled onto that little guy...it made such a huge difference.

I sent in a request to join Darker Spike so I am hoping that I am accepted.. LOL

Keyframing gave me issues for the longest time. I am still not the greatest at it, but at school I managed to learn the basics and learn what various parameters do in Avid. It helped me to understand keyframing better in Vegas as a whole.
