I'm sorry this is so late, guys! People have been asking me, and although I know the turnout won't be like it has in the past, all it takes are a few people to make a santa exchange, so, yes, we're back for year NINE!!! Sign-ups will actually be opening up very soon (as in the next few minutes soon), and I'll make the official open for business post then. In the meantime:
Simply post your request for a holiday gift any time between November 1st and November 30th. You'll then receive the name of a community member and a copy of their request. All you have to do is do your best to comply with their request, and make them something pretty.
Wishlists:
Please format them in the following way:
E-mail address: If you prefer not to list it in public, please just shoot me an E-mail with your address and LJ username at btvs [.] santa @ gmail [.] com.
Things I'd like: Request as many things as you want (remember, the more you list, the more likely you'll get something you want). Be as specific or as general as you'd like.
What I can do: What you can offer to your partner. This helps me make assignments that won't make people tear their hair out and curse my name.
What I absolutely CAN'T do: Pretty self-explanatory. I'd rather not incur the wrath of anyone, so list any limitations (fic only, no het, whatever) you may have.
Dates:
Sign-ups will run from November 5-November 30th, 2011.
All gifts should be posted between December 24th, 2011 and January 1st, 2012.
Once you receive your assignment, you may make "teaser" gifts at any time (but they're completely optional). If you do decide you want to post any small gifts prior to December 24th, don't reveal yourself! Send any teaser gifts and notes for your recipients to me, and I will post them on your behalf.
If for some reason you're unable to post your gift between December 24th and January 1st, please send it to me at btvs [.] santa @ gmail [.] com, and I'll post it for you :).
Requests can be of any type--fics, icons, videos, graphics--just make sure you leave more than one option for your Secret Santa, so they can work in the genre they feel most comfortable with. Remember, these are VIRTUAL gifts. Please, refrain from purchasing anything for your recipient--not everyone has the means to do so, and no one should feel alienated when the real purpose here is to make a gift.
Most importantly, have FUN! :)
A VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: As always, there are those few people from last year who, despite numbers of gifters AND replacement gifters, never got anything (and it's my fault, too, because after a certain amount of time, it's hard to keep begging people for gifts) after a wave of dropouts. I hate that it happens, but it is SO HARD to keep in touch with people who just decide to drop out of the exchange with no word whatesoever. So, please--before you sign up, THINK. If you think that you're going to have trouble completing a gift, or are going to keep stringing a certain mod along with promises that it's on the way and never deliver, I URGE you not to participate. I realize that situations arise every year, and I always do my best to adapt, but if there's any doubt in your mind, please don't leave someone hanging come the holidays. Also on that note, if signing up here and NOT getting a gift is going to ruin your holiday, maybe it's best to skip. I'll do everything I can to get you a gift, but if the SOLE REASON you're playing is because you need that gift, you have to take everything with a grin of salt...people sometimes flake out on their obligations. If you think the giving is just as fun as the getting, though, you're in the right place. :)
