The Project

I have finally finished my cross stich project!  Within the adoption world, the "waiting game" is a killer.  One thing people suggest to do during this period is to start a project specifically related to the baby; a scrapbook, make a photo album in preparation, paint the nursery, etc.  John's sister, while she was pregnant with Cameron, crocheted a bazillion stuffed animals, so that got me thinking.

A year ago I started a baby record cross stitch.  It wasn't a simple one, but not overly complex either.  I've worked on it on and off throughout the year; whenever I would get bummed, I'd put it away.  But when I needed to be reminded that this will happen, I'd pick it up again.  It's something tangible that I can hold onto, something that focuses me on the notion that I have a baby on the way... and there's just something about the zoning out combined with the movement and progress of the stitching that's cathartic to me.  And since I'm addicted to my audio books, it gives me a good reason to listen to them, which helps in the zoning out.  (It also gives Miss Mia the opportunity to snooze in my lap - this is the first time she's been a "lap kitty" since we first got her as a kitten... and you can call me a crazy cat lady, but I love it.)  And now that it's done (except for the name, birth date and weight, of course), I have something that I can keep forever.  And I'm a pack rat, so when I say forever, I mean forever.

And in perfect Moi fashion, I ordered another cross stitch for the baby's room over the weekend.  It should arrive today and I'm way too excited to get started on it.
