Updates and a few comments...

For the rest of this week, and probably a good potion of week, I'm going to concentrate on my NaNoWriMo fic - which means that all of my other fics will be on temporary haitus. If I can get two chapters done a day, that will be great. Sometime next week, I'll probably start on The New Boy In Town - which is the last of three hole-filler fics for the BTTF season. My NaNoWriMo fic, Double Trouble, will contain thirty chapters - which means I have to write one chapter a day to make my goal. I'm going to try to do two chapters a day, since I also have to get The New Boy In Town written this month  - and, if at all possible, I'd like to get two chapters each up for four story that I started last month (A Ticket To The Movies, Time Travel Heroes, Bill and Ted's Shocking Expedition, and Reality Escape).

Now, I was doing a little bit of lurking at
fanficrants, and I started thinking about my own habits with regards to favouriting/alerting/commenting - and my attitude about other people's habits in that area. I myself am not a member of the community, as a lot of what gets discussed there is very confrontational - and I try to avoid that, if at all possible.

I myself have gotten into confrontations in the past regarding politics, and I sometimes say offensive things without really meaning to. Like, I never meant to generalize all conservatives as being "hate-mongers" - but with the way some people on that side were being downright hateful to Michael J Fox (with regards to his stance of ESCR), I sometimes do tend to question that side. That being said, I do know some people on that side who aren't quite so intolerant. I digess, though.

Because the BTTF fandom is pretty slow, compared to other fandoms, I generally try to comment to every new story that comes up in the BTTF section of FFN. So I generally don't favourite without commenting. However, it's no big deal to me if someone adds one of my stories to favourite/alerts without commenting. Yeah, commens are very nice - and it would be nice to have people mention what they've specifically liked about the story. If they don't, though - then it's really no big deal to me. Mostly, I'm just happy to know that people read my stories - and that's good enough for me.

With regards to people adding stories marked "complete" to their alerts, I admit that I do that. Technically, I really don't have to add any story from the BTTF section of FFN to my alerts - as I visit that section just about everyday, and the updates there are pretty slow compared to other fandoms. So I would actually notice right away, if any story I liked from the BTTF section was updated. Still, since I usually check my email shortly after logging on, if I have an alert - then I know I can read the new chapter right away. I myself tend to group various related ficlets as chapters under one story (e.g. Marty Wept, Marty's Torment, Marty and Jennifer Forever, Best Friends Forever). I always have those story collections marked as "complete", even though there's a good possibility of adding to the collection - because each story is a stand-alone story, and there are certain people who refuse to read stories that are not marked as "complete". Anyway, it's just something I do out of habit - and there is always the possibility that one may decide to add more to the fic. So that's that.

Sometimes I think people just need to relax, and not make such a big freaking deal about things like people adding stories marked as "complete" to Story Alerts. You can't just presume to know what their motives are.

On a side note, when it comes to Author Alerts, it would be nice for FFN to offer a feature that would filter stories by fandom - as they do by ratings. Like, for instance, I'll read a really good story in the BTTF section - so I add the author to alerts. However, the author then goes on to write stories for fandoms that really don't interest me in the least - so it can rather annoying to receive alerts for stories that are unrelated to the BTTF fandom.
