I guess Nickelodeon is the main problem. The fact that they are signed there will always be a curse as well as a blessing. I am pretty sure they would have never gotten together without their tv show and it gives them a large amount of exposure towards you get listeners, but for a lot of their older potential fans Nick is basically a red sign. And it just seems that a lot of people automatically assume they have no talent due to that.

But then again, 1D also gets bad reviews (not as much as BTR, but still). It seems to be that people just always have to criticize boy bands just because they are what they are, no matter if talented or not.

Then again I understand some of the reviews, because yeah, they aren't the worlds best musician and their lyrics are typical pop star stuff (except for a few greater ones) and don't talk about the more serious stuff like politics and war and who knows what, and they aren't the next Queen or something, by sill. I don't get why they receive so many comments about being talentless and singign playback or being generally horrible in what they do, because they are not. They have just as much talent (if not more) as any Kesha or Rihanna or really any of the pop stars out there.

This.

This and they're not All About Teh Sex. You know what I mean. Partly for their baby audience, their more adult lyrics are not outright obvious. We can read them as the metaphor we want, (Show Me, anyone? Or "let's take a lap?") but kids can still listen, too. I had a REAL issue last night with Cody Simpson selling himself (hard) as Mr-Sexy-Man-expert when he is freaking 15 years old. And? Is not.

Your Kesha's and Rihanna's? Yeah, sex has always been on the radio, but not so bluntly, and without cleverness or a little double entendre. If BTR wrote nice, mysogynistic songs about treating girls like ho's, would they get more airplay? (In case anyone is wondering, yes I am old, and yes, I have serious outrage issues with Usher singing "relax and get on your back.")
