Did you know fanfiction.net currently holds over 11,000 BTR fics? That is so much fanfiction. When you're used to reading fic on livejournal and then find out your new fandom uses a site other than lj for most of its fic, it can be jarring. Especially when that site is fanfiction.net. To an outsider, that place can seem like a portal to hell where ( Read more... )

Wellllll
Back in the dark ages when the muse first tempted my to try my own hand at fanfic, I was lucky enough to be encouraged and supported by an amazing site in an otherwise often scary fandom where every story had to be submitted as an idea and be approved, then the writer assigned a beta, then it had to be beta'd before it could be posted. It was a little heavenly corner of the internet where all of the fic, as you can imagine, was superb. I wrote one story there, a multi-chapter, and said to say never finished it.

Next fandom where I felt the pull to write, I used an LJ and eventually started a comm, which ran happily and creatively for a few years. Had many one-shots. And one chaptered fic which, again, I never finished. (ADHD much?)

Which brings us to fan fiction dot net. I had always shied away, but when my brain went really nuts and insisted it needed to write a BTR fic, that's where I went. Opened an account for a chaptered gen fic. Which, you guessed it, I haven't finished. The most frustrating thing about the site is settling for few reviews because you're not penning what the kids want, but when you get a few good ones it's better than nothing. It also means fewer people to disappoint when I inevitably don't finish the story. LJ for BTR? Well, I swore I wouldn't get involved in the fandom, so no need to open a new LJ. Until my brain went really nuts one day and I felt the need to write a fic that just didn't seem to match my other BTR persona, then gargletwice was born...

Anyway. I sift through the fic over there, can usually tell by the summary if it is worth clicking. ("I suck at summaries"/"just R&R"/"story is better"/OCs wanted" helps save me time) Sometimes catch good stuff. This chaptered gen fic from the past year was a very intriguing character study, with drama and angst and humor and whumpage. I became friendly with the author because we had the same view of many things. In fact I still try not to make my story sound like hers. This fic is called "Another Reason", by HeavenRose.

Wow, way too long comment. Fanfic dot net "is what it is". I won't let myself open up any other writing accounts, so there my stuff goes. And sometimes I find other goods, too.
