So, I was looking at a couple of official images that had been turned into jigsaw puzzles, and found myself thinking of the friendships between the four Banana Splits. For years, I often found myself thinking that though they’re all buddies, they would have someone they’re particularly close to. Here are my thoughts about those friendships...
Bingo and Snorky
(They’re both Snorky, he was given two designs)
I often found a particular closeness to these two. For one, Bingo can ALWAYS understand Snorky’s honks and often finds himself translating (sometimes for the audience’s benefit). An example would be in one of the first episodes, Fleegle has Snorky read about the secret code, but finds he can’t understand him. Bingo can and explains Snorky’s honking in the secret code. Another example is with Drooper not being able to understand Snorky in one story of the annual.
It’s nothing to do with their species. I also find those two don’t sing as much as the other two (Snorky doesn’t sing at all except in a couple of comics, a story and one segment where he had a “la la la” (only time we hear his voice and it is CUTE!!!) and while Bingo has a few, it’s still not as much as Fleegle or Drooper get).
Bingo does get along with Drooper well enough too. With Fleegle it can get a bit complicated due to Fleegs sometimes unintentionally offending him with use of sayings like “I’ll be a monkey’s uncle”. But, like Drooper, he does tend to address him by “Fleeg”, “Fleegs” or even “Fleegie”, so he does feel close to him as well.
Same applies to Snorky. Actually, the other Splits tend to look out for him at times since he’s smaller and potentially a bit younger. Plus, they can understand him most of the time, so of course he’d have a good bond with them. Actually, he tends to be the only one free from teasing or certain remarks that may offend.
Fleegle and Drooper
In official sources, Drooper has been described as Fleegle’s right-hand man as well as the voice of reason. They tend to have a lot of screentime together (especially in the episodes the Dilly Sisters appeared in). Though Drooper tends to fall into the same silliness as Bingo which can exasperate Fleegle, they still get along quite well.
Sure, in ‘The Banana Splits in Hocus Pocus Park’ and one comic, Fleegle did call Drooper stupid. But, Drooper quickly let it go (in the former, he was less upset about being called the stupidest of the lot and more upset about having to fight the witch’s knight) and things were back to the way they should be. The two of them have the most songs under their belts and both play guitar (Fleegle is lead guitarist while Drooper is rhythm guitarist on his bass).
As mentioned, Drooper can get silly, especially with Bingo (though his silly responses in the ‘Dear Drooper’ segments even have Bingo facepalming). Fleegle is usually the straight man, but even he may fall into the silly trap. Also, to see thoughts about their friendships about the others, see above.
However, no matter how they tease or make remarks that may offend (nothing serious!), no matter how silly they get and drive the others nuts, no matter who sings more or less, one thing is clear.
They’re a group of friends, a bunch that won’t split no matter what. Even if they get a bit cross with each other, it passes very quickly and all’s well. They’re still loyal to each other and will offer help and encouragement whether it’s something silly or more serious.
The Banana Splits Cheer even points it out in the first half...
Each fellow for all, and all for each fellow
Our loyalty never quits
(The rest is...
Everyone knows bananas are yellow
But not the Banana Splits)
...
Oh, to speak of a cute and a bit silly moment...
As the show wraps up, Fleegle tells the other three to “throw our friends a kiss”. Fleegs starts blowing kisses to the viewers, but Drooper brings out a box of Hershey’s Kisses. He and Snorky start throwing them while Fleegle continues blowing kisses. Bingo blows a kiss then joins in the chocolate throwing. Fleegle sees what they’re doing and is unimpressed. He makes a comment about “one day, I’m gonna kiss these silly Bananas goodbye!” and chuckles. Drooper basically tosses the contents of the box out, then gives Fleegle a kiss. Snorky does the same while hugging him and Bingo tackle-glomps him while giving him a kiss that sends him to the ground. He starts wiping those kisses off and collapses onto the ground.
Finally, interesting facts! The men in the costumes for Fleegle, Bingo and Drooper were brothers in real life, though they were credited with different names (their dad wrote ‘The Tra La La Song (One Banana Two Banana), but due to contractual legalities, the credit went to Ritchie Adams and Mark Barkan).

I plan on writing a fic about my thoughts of how the Splits met. I think it mostly happened the same day, but went ‘Bingo met Snorky, Fleegle met Drooper, Drooper met Bingo, and they were all introduced to each other by the end of the day’. My thoughts on their friendships will be reflected strongly in all my fics as well; like how I tend to have Fleegle and Drooper share most heart-to-hearts when troubled while Bingo and Snorky do the same. At the same time, the other two share their concerns between themselves but it’s a minor scene. Example: My current project ‘Drooper’s Birthday Surprise’ has Fleegle and Drooper share a lot of scenes, even having them go out on an outing while Bingo and Snorky work on preparing the Banana Pad for Drooper’s surprise party and his mother’s arrival (I have Bingo give the reason that Fleegle should attend the theme park concert with Drooper since they’re both guitarists and vocallists in the band, but Fleegle also points out to Drooper that though he thinks of all of them as his best friends, he feels closest to Drooper).
