I have been rewatching Shirokuma Cafe over the last few nights, especially when restless.

I also started watching Strange+ today. The best way to describe this minisode anime is that it's one pile of WTF. It is hilarious, but so freaking random. Seki Tomokazu is in it, which was why I decided to give it a go. At the end of each minisode, we see art done by other mangaka (the first minisode ED art was done by Minekura Kazuya, the mangaka for Saiyuki (and spin-offs), Bus Gamer, Wild Adapter (and Araiso), Brothers and more).

Finally, I had a nostalgia kick thinking about an old cartoon I used to watch after school when I was like eight (it aired later in the afternoon so never conflicted with Madeline if she was on). The cartoon featured a small purple alien sent to our planet to act as a World Watcher, meaning he was in charge of watching over and protecting nature. I am speaking, of course, of Widget.
People liken it to Captain Planet, and they're pretty much spot-on.

It was cartoons like Widget, Captain Planet, Magic School Bus that helped educate viewers without necessarily treating them like babies. Granted, the audiences are usually young children, but we need educational shows for school-age children and young teens like the aforementioned. I mean, Captain Planet certainly came across as a show for older children due to teenagers being the ones to help protect our planet, and there was even an episode featuring a teenager with AIDS and education on that, and I think even drugs were used in one as well. The lessons at the end of each episode which had characters address the viewers did bring up "speak with a parent or teacher for more advice on how you can help" and such, but they never belittled the audience or dumbed things down like a lot of today's shows...does that make sense?

I guess my point is we did have a lot of f-ed up shows, but there were also some that were brilliant and should still be airing today. Kids these days (gosh, I feel old saying that) are seriously missing out!
