Hey there, minna-san! How are you? Good? I hope so...
Right, so I've been rewatching Meine Liebe and have finally been able to watch the rest of Wieder (season two). Anyway, when I couldn't sleep the other night, I started thinking of something...
The relationships between the boys from Meine Liebe (and believe it or not, I'm not actually going into shounen-ai territory this time!)
First, Orpherus and Ludwig. They are always in heated debates about what would be the best way to govern the people of Kuchen. I mean always! But, though to outsiders it seems like they don't like each other, it couldn't be further from the truth.
They actually do care about each other! It's as they're trying to remind the other of their passions. Example...when Orpherus was feeling out of sorts after visiting his older sister's resting place, he was even zoning out in class. After class has finished, Ludwig actually starts a debate, even prodding for Orpherus to reply. When he doesn't get a response, he reminds Orpherus not to let his emotions control him. He might sound harsh, but in truth, he's showing his own concern towards Orpherus in the only way he knows how. As for Orpherus, if he didn't have the debates with Ludwig, I believe Ludwig would just go with everything as he had been raised to do, but because of the debates, he is able to get his own thoughts out there.
Even Camus and Naoji have pointed out that Ludwig is a sensitive individual deep-down, and they're right. Ludwig cares for his friends, his fellow Strahl candidates, he just shows it in a way others wouldn't receive well.
Orpherus and Eduard are best friends, have been since they were children. Eduard never wanted to become a Strahl candidate, but because of Orpherus, he did, just so he could always offer his support. He was there for Orpherus after Robertine's death, and as for Orpherus, he's looked out for Eduard in a way I can't think of others had. Because of Eduard's stepmother, it's not good for him to be at home, even though his older stepsisters and father love him very much. But, Orpherus has reminded Eduard there's nothing wrong with his parental heritage and he's even opened his house to him for if Eduard needs to get away from his evil stepmother (well, she is!).
Camus loves everyone unconditionally. As a child, he was always sheltered due to his weak constitution and ability. His family feared he'd be hated by those who knew of it. But, then as he grew up, Ludwig would tell him everything about the outside world, and in the end, he decided to attend Rosenstalz Academy. He will help everyone anyway he can, whether it's using his ability to protect them from accidents or helping them feel better when his flowers notice anybody is distressed. While he is close to Ludwig, his cousin, he's also fond of Naoji, Orpherus and Eduard, as well as his newest friend Elmunt. What he loves best about his friends is that they don't shelter him, treat him as fragile, but will still look out for him and help him whenever he's feeling unwell.
Naoji is devoted to Ludwig, as he'd given him recognition after he arrived at the school. He's often by Ludwig's side, even making tea for him every afternoon. But, that doesn't mean he doesn't like the others as well. He gets along very well with Camus, usually the one to tend to him if he experiences a fit. He's also very good friends with Eduard, and while he's normally a quiet person, if anyone offends Eduard, he'll actually firmly tell them off! (In a drama CD, he and Eduard were on student exchange at Gleicheit Academy, and during their time there, something had been stolen, and Eduard was accused. As soon as someone brought up about his parents, Naoji immediately yelled at them. Later on, Eduard comments he's probably the only one who has seen Naoji angry.) He may have been awkward around Orpherus, but it wasn't because he didn't like him. He felt someone radiant didn't deserve to be looked at by someone like him. But, they settled that and now, he can talk to him as well as he can talk to anyone.
You know? Something hit me about Ludwig and Orpherus...their relationship is similar to Asuna and Ayaka in Negima. They fight, but it's only to help the other express themselves.
That's it for now, minna-san! Ja ne!
