life update: Colorado and Wren-chan

Some of you might have heard the cheering from your corners of the world:
waywren has graduated college (CONGRATS WREN!!!) and I got to be there to see it!

I was invited to the ceremonies, and thus Becky's Grand Adventure to Parts Unknown (called Colorado) began. I learned many things about altitude, public transportation, and packing. And finally Wren-chan and I met face to face! (It's about darn time!) I flew out on Thursday to be in time for the proceedings, and arrived back late Sunday night to allow for the most time with Wren. It was quite a whirlwind!

There were many trip experiences, including but not limited to:

Southwest Airlines: complain all you want about peanuts, strange boarding, and crowded planes, but OMG CHEAP. I might not have made it without 'em, so I don't care if the plane ride was like a school bus! And I got to fly with the Oregon State U. (my alma mater) baseball team on my way home, so nyeh! XD They were fun and happy cute guys in sporty team shirts laughing and playing cards. Go OSU!!

Altitude: omg whud. 5-6k feet above sea level is the flat-ish area below the Rockies proper, where we were. I've spent most of my life at around 500 feet. I managed, because I can hike. ^^; But whew! That first day was a little light-headed. And the air is very very dry. Within an hour of falling off the plane I was parched and shriveled, so I started carting a water bottle and draining more water in a day than I ever have back home!

Wren-chan: WAI!! Finally we meet! And she is just as sweet in person as online. I would never have survived the trackless jungles of Denver and public transportation without her! She put up with me being a gawking country mouse in the big city and made sure I survived in one piece to be put back on the plane. There was epic food, an AWESOME movie, and adoptable books! ^_^ Thanks Wren, I had a blast and it was great to see you!

Buses: some of you might not know just how much of a hick I am, but this might clue you in--I had never set foot on a public bus before this trip! Back home, I live way too far out in the boonies for a bus to bother coming anywhere near (nope, not even a Greyhound). I drive myself! But I wasn't going to have my darling little clunker in Denver, so Wren-sensei educated me in many things scheduled and buslike. And thank goodness, the buses were prompt, clean, and not full of crazy people (just me!), and nothing like the horror stories I'd heard of buses/trains in Oregon.

Packing: apparently I missed my calling as a moving service magnate. Wren had an apartment to move and three days to move it in! I pitched in and declared war on all forms of loose doodads and clutter. There was only mild insanity of people shoving boxes every which way and tripping over each other, but once things were moving in earnest I think it went smoothly. (Also apparently my ability to spout random facts on anything and everything is greatly entertaining to Wren's Family so they are distracted from Busily Packing Wrens!) This was also an experience, as I had never packed for a moving company before and am normally unconcerned with counting boxes or specifying dates as long as I know what is where (usually I shove it into a box, label it, and toss it in the trunk). These logistics are another thing Wren is very good at!

Graduation ceremonies: It was grand and officious! Many snazzy robes and a blizzard of tossed hats! And omg so many people graduating! They filled a football field! I think my class was only a third the size. And they had actual parties and cake! Cake!! Now that's what I call a celebration.

Movie: we saw Avengers. 'Nuff said. SQUEE!!omgcannottalktooawesomeKYAAA*fangirl*

A good time was had by all (I hope)! I got to meet Wren for reals, and her family, and her friend Gen, adventured the furthest east I've ever been in my life, saw the big city and the actual Rockies, and--oh, did I say met Wren? XD I'll say it again! Got to meet Wren!

It was such a crazy fun busy weekend I'll only have to sleep for a week to recover. XD

PS: Now you have to come visit me soon, Wren! ^_^
