Day One: Introduction Day Two: First Great Love, in great detail Day Three: Your Parents, in great detail Day Four, What you ate today, in great detail Day Five: Your definition of love, in great detail Day Six: Your Day in great detail Day 7: Your Best friend, in great detail Day 08: a moment, in great detail This is kind of a broad request so I find it hard to speak in great detail on such a broad topic. But, the basics of my core beliefs: the ones that I believe define me as a person would be:
1) I believe in God, and 2) I believe that his Son Jesus left an example of compassion and love that I am meant to live by. Therefore, I believe in social justice, equal human rights and fairness. I believe that everyone deserves my respect and love, and that it is my job as a follower of Jesus to provide them with more than just tolerance. But all out, painful, sacrificial love to everyone - but especially the hurt, the poor and the lonely and outcasted. So I seek out opportunities to serve others, and I believe in doing so I learn and grow as a person, which is why I was placed here on earth. I work as a RN in a county hospital with homeless patients, patients that are in the jail system that become to unstable to be in jail, detox patients, and just down and out people without health care insurance. I love my job. I feel like I have found my niche, and I BELIEVE that it was what I was meant to do. Until, I become restless, and then I will know that I am being called to do something else and I will again, follow. I believe that as human beings that we suffer from
DEPRAVED INDIFFERENCE but I strive not to live that way. I WANT the things that break the heart of Jesus to break mine. I don't want to every be comfortable or apathetic that people around me are suffering. I want a big family, full or orphans and outcasts and friends that become my family. Because I believe that they are in the eyes of our Father. I believe in a big house, with a lot of love and chaos. Because, In my mind, that is how heaven will be.
I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. John 14:18
Whoever heard me spoke well of me, and those who saw me commended me, because I rescued the poor who cried for help, and the fatherless who had none to assist him. The man who was dying blessed me, I made the widow's heart sing. I put on righteousness as my clothing, justice was my robe and my turban. I was eyes to the blind, and feet to the lame. I was a father to the needy; I took up the case of the stranger. I broke the fangs of the wicked, and snatched the victims from their teeth Job 20:11-17
Politically, I am liberal. As I believe that Jesus did, I believe in radical, progressive social justice. I believe that my political party better embodies that than the others. Although I don't believe that any one religion, or political party has a claim on absolute truth, or being, "right."
I also believe in the tenet of something called the
Charter for Compassion. My boyfriend (yes, I have a boyfriend, and I will discuss that soon), posted this on his face book way before we started hanging out and I was drawn very much to the words. They are very beautiful, and I believe in the sentiments expressed below. He recently got me a plaque inscribed with the wording for my birthday.
"The principle of compassion lies at the heart of all religious, ethical and spiritual traditions, calling us always to treat all others as we wish to be treated ourselves. Compassion impels us to work tirelessly to alleviate the suffering of our fellow creatures, to dethrone ourselves from the centre of our world and put another there, and to honour the inviolable sanctity of every single human being, treating everybody, without exception, with absolute justice, equity and respect.
It is also necessary in both public and private life to refrain consistently and empathically from inflicting pain. To act or speak violently out of spite, chauvinism, or self-interest, to impoverish, exploit or deny basic rights to anybody, and to incite hatred by denigrating others-even our enemies-is a denial of our common humanity. We that we have failed to live compassionately and that some have even increased the sum of human misery in the name of religion.
We therefore call upon all men and women ~ to restore compassion to the centre of morality and religion ~ to return to the ancient principle that any interpretation of scripture that breeds violence, hatred or disdain is illegitimate ~ to ensure that youth are given accurate and respectful information about other traditions, religions and cultures ~ encourage a positive appreciation of cultural and religious diversity ~ to cultivate an informed empathy with the suffering of all human beings-even those regarded as enemies.
We urgently need to make compassion a clear, luminous and dynamic force in our polarized world. Rooted in a principled determination to transcend selfishness, compassion can break down political, dogmatic, ideological and religious boundaries. Born of our deep interdependence, compassion is essential to human relationships and to a fulfilled humanity. It is the path to enlightenment, and indispensible to the creation of a just economy and a peaceful global community."
