This takes courage

Since the big week is about to be upon us (come on, you know, Julia Week (with a little Dee in the middle), and I am hoping to run into some chenzelfriends, I thought it might be useful to be accessible and just be me. I'm pretty good at being friendly, but can be shy when met face to face. So peeking over the veil of the computer screen, I will be ( Read more... )

The winter of 2003, I was in Steamboat, Colorado visiting friends, and we wandered into a local book store, where the staff had an "our favorites" section. There was a glowing comment card about WICKED. I bought it and read it in two days (I did have to ski, you know). When I got back home, I forced one of my book groups to read it a few months later. They were split, some of these ladies are not into the alternative reality thing (you should have seen them when I got them to read The Time Traveler's Wife!). Anyway, when the pre Broadway production was announced for SF, I spearheaded a group to go and see the June 1st show. I was hooked the moment Dee rose to the stratosphere: standing on the cherry picker and her voice as well.
As to Our Divas. I have a friend who knew Dee before WICKED and always spoke of her sweetness and warmth. When I was in NYC Spring of 04, before the Tony's, I saw the show a few more times and observed her at the stage door. I was struck by her quiet gentleness. It fascinated me that someone that unassuming, could be larger than life on that massive stage. As to the Blond One, she and I, I have come to find out, have lots in common. Adoption, Oklahoma, short jokes, ex -fiancees, none of which I knew at the time I really did run into her in NYC. Practically knocked her over and that's not easy for me, but my 5'2" trumped her 4'11". The customary "I'm sorrys" were exchanged. If it happened today, I would tell her we needed to to to The Olive Garden and talk over pasta and breadsticks.
So, nothing new here. Pretty much the same story for us all, as to how we fell into this WICKED WORLD.
